Scheduling Question
I know that most airlines build pilot schedules for 75-80 hours/month. What if you dropped one of your 4-day trips (someone else wants to pick it up) so then you fly about 55-60 hours/month instead? Will they let you do this? Will they let you do it every month over a 25 year careeer? I understand your pay would drop quite a bit.

Your pay should stay at the guaranteed minimum. I know a captain at pinnacle who flies 40 hrs a month. Some United pilot told me about a guy who flew with them that was very senior, but chose to be an FE because he found out that he could adjust his bid to fly some extemely small amount of time, and still get the monthly guarantee. I wish I could remember the exact number because it was shockingly low, but I can't and don't want to make anything up. It was so low, however, that he couldn't even keep current and management forced him into early retiremnet.

I obviously can't speak for every contract, but at Horizon and I'm sure others, if you can drop trips (it's up to crew scheduling and whether they feel reserve availability levels for the days you want to drop are high enough) you will lose the credit value of that trip from your min guarantee.
