I can't decide.....

Brew, get some 121 experience before you post comments like that. Most everybody is content with the FLYING part of their job and just sick of the lifestyle of a 121. And you know what, I respect that guys that come here and complain about it just so the reality of this job comes into view. I'm a commuter, I usually have to commute in a night before, then spend 5 days on reserve and if I'm not called out... I end up paying 5 nights of hotel fees. Then, when its finally time to go home, it a luck factor if you can non-rev home that same night or if there are even any more flights back. Out of my 10 days off a month I would estimate I am only home for 6 of them. Being home for 6 days out of the month, while paying for hotels, and making only 20k a year.. there are real issues that arise from that.
I'm not sitting around and just complaining, I am persuing a lateral movement to another regional with a NY base all while inquiring about persuing a masters degree or even another line of work alltogether.
I love flying, I just dont like all the other BS associated with it. If you can make it in this industry that is freakin awesome, the sad reality is that many never do and end up career regional pilots. I will probably fly until I marry and then the joy of being home and spending time with my wife and kids will outweight the joys of flying and struggling to survive.
To end with.. Brew, I'm sure we'll see you in a few months or years back on the forum and complaining.. just like everybody else. And you know what, there is really nothing you can do about it when the unions and airline managment are sleeping in the same bed.

Actually I think having those arguments here helps alot of guys decide where they want to go. I think its good to hear the pros and cons of a company from people who actually work there. If nobody came on these boards to complain or gloat, we would know alot less about the companies we work for.
If your annoyed, quit reading posts. Simple fix.

The point I am trying to make is when I think something is good and someone tells me it sux, I get bullheaded. But if that same person CALMLY lists reasons I can understand and shows me why my belief is bad, THEN I can be persuaded to make a better, more informed choice.
And lastly, an informed, well conceived choice that differs from yours is not all bad. My making $2 an hour less but living in a base of my choosing, may be a better fit than making top dollar and commuting to EWR.
(I am not arguing with either of the people I quoted. My HOPE is the debates here can be more informative and less "my d**k is bigger than yours")

I know when I first came to this sight and was asking questions, I appreciated everyone's insight. What might have sounded like pilots *****ing was actually them informing the less informed about the good and bad of their companies, which helped me make a more informed decision. Is some of the same info repeated and repeated on here? Probably, but I'm sure glad there are guys on here that are willing to take time out of their day to talk with eachother in this setting.

You forgot a key trait of pilots. We always whine about something. Its our nature to not be satisfied with our current situation. Its a side effect of our endless boredom in cruise and training to seek perfection in our flying.

Relax, I didn't aim any of this at any current FO. I was strictly talking to anyone who doesn't have a job yet, and I was saying it's going to be tough. It just seemed like everyone thinks this job is going to be easy and I am saying what all the current FO's are saying, it's not.
I don't think this could have gotten blown more out of proportion or misinterpreted any worse than it did.
Sorry if it struck a wrong note, but I didn't mean to offend everyone it seemed to offend. I don't think anyone understood a word I said, or more importantly who it was aimed at.
Sorry if I have a weird way of saying things, but honestly....no harm!
