Default Island Air

Hey all,

Anybody have any information on Island Air. Good or bad is welcome. I hear it is a fun Commuter to work for. I enjoy that type of lifestyle, and living in that kind of climate is 'my bag.' I am just looking for insight on the company itself, other than what is on their website and APC.com

Thanks in advance,
D

Know many pilots who have gone through Island Air.....one thing to think about is the cost of living in Hawaii and 1st year pay there. Every pilot I know who went through had good things to say about the flying, however said the flight department was somewhat unorganized. Many of their pilots WERE moving into Aloha and Hawaiian, however we all know they are currently not hiring. Quick Upgrade, good pay once you make the left seat, and lots of legs.....sounds good to me!

As long as you don't like to eat too much or sleep indoors.

I think he means that you are going to hate life trying to live in HNL on $22K-27K a year. I've never lived there but I know from friends that Island Air pay won't get you very far. But as long as you don't mind Ramen and Easy Mac three meals a day and sleeping on the balcony at your apartment because your 6 roommates already filled up your 2 bedrooms, then you shouldn't mind it too much.

Trying to survive here on 15-1700 a month is tough. Rent, food, gas all cost more than anywhere on the mainland( except Manhattan) I don't work there, but I can't imagine living here on their wages.

Thanks for the input Rama. I have friends out there that I will shack up with until I would make CA, then after that, I would find a place for myself. Also, this is just one of the many airlines that I am looking to apply at...so who knows what will happen. Just trying to do some research. If anyone else has any info, don't hesitate to chime in. I need all the info I can get!

I like the climate there too. It sure kicks Houston's weather's ass.

On another note I hope you have your mountain flying up to par. How much time do you have under your belt?

Oh yeah.. this might be a dumb question, but do you live by LAX?

Lived in Kailua (east side of Oahu) for 5 yrs '97-'02. Sticker shock back then. Went back to visit old friends in Jan......heart attack! Just a room to rent in a persons house is close to $1000/mth. Don't believe me, check out the classifieds in the Honolulu Advertiser or Honolulu Free Press
