Default Failed New Hire Oral Exams

Just curious if you guys have any experiences with this situation.

A guy I know is a NH over at Eagle...I just found out yesterday that after all of his "Breezing" through systems ground school, that he failed his Oral.

Now I'd imagine Eagle still makes the oral a "checking event" so im sure he got pinked.

My question is...has anyone at eagle or other regionals seen this happen?? Have these guys kept their jobs??

I had a few people in my class failed the oral at Eagle. It was training for the Saab but, they all made it to line. Eagle has a point system. 3 points your gone. A failed oral is a point, checkride is a point, and written tests are a half point. hope this helps

Failing an oral is not a big deal, you go home and study and pass the second time. There is less pressure because you already had done it and you'll feel more ready. In fact it's better for those guys who "breezed" through systems to fail than pass because they'll have a much better knowledge about systems the second time around.

No excuse to fail an oral, IMO. Sims are different, anyone can have a bad day there, but failing an oral usually means you didn't apply yourself. Memory items and limitations are a given. Spew those out correctly and you are 90% there. I get the feeling most examiners can tell within 60 secs how an oral is going to go.

not sure you would get a "pink" for an oral bust.... retrain... retake.... press on.

NEVER try to BS your examiner..... or guess for that matter ...... I think most examiners would rather you just admit you dont know something than take a wild guess at an answer.

There wont be a physical pink slip but it will show on his training records that he failed a training event.

It just like failing your private pilot checkride. It will be on your record.

There was a written test that they changed from the oral when I was going through training. I believe that 10/12 failed. That is not a problem with the NH but with the instructors.

You don't get actual pink slips in 121 training, unless you were getting your ATP on your upgrade ride But it does go in your record which is accessible via PRIA, so it has the same effect as a pink. Will one hurt you? No. A track record of repeated failures is not good though.

I'm not sure about type rides...I haven't heard of anyone getting a pink on an SIC type ride, but maybe you do?
