Jepp Chart Study Question
Hey all,
I was wondering the best place to review jepp charts for an interview and personal education? Im looking at getting the King DVD or the jepp DVD review and studing that way. Should I order some plates to have in hand and look over? I know of some regional pilots I could ask to have thier old plates....it doesnt matter to me if there not current by a week or so as I will not be using them to fly and just want to look at...or should I order a set from jeppeson? I asked this in the pre-interview forum with little input. Thanks all!

Just like Jaded said study the legend at the front of the charts. Jeppesen published a chart clinic that is pretty good to. Also you may look into Jepp's DVD. Just be able to finger fly an approach and know all of the symbols on the enroute charts and you'll be fine. Also know how 121 regs apply to flying an approach, they will typically give you a report below your mins outside of the FAF and see if you go missed etc.

jamin35008,
Don't buy any fancy DVD unless you really have the money to spare.
A quick search on google links this website, which is excellent, and you probably shouldn't expect much more than this on any interview.

I know I may be of no help either but the thing is, he doesn't have any charts, so how is he going to check out the legend in "the front of the charts."

In the notes section of Jepps, what does "Transition Level" or "Transition Altitude" mean? Obviously FL180 is a transition altitude because you change from local to standard altimeter setting, but why is it in the notes of certain approach plates?
Edit: It's probably because this is not always the case in other countries, so their pilots probably would like to see that on the charts when they are flying into a US airport. Is that correct?

Yes- transitional altitude varies depending on where you are around the world. That's why it's printed locally on Jepp charts. I've seen it as low as 4500 feet. (IE climb and maintain Flight Level 050.)

Thanks everyone for the input. Im still leaning towards getting both the DVD and the charts so I can study them and do it again and again. I want the DVD because I learn better from visual cues and Im looking on ebay to get it cheaper. Is the best place to get some jepp charts from their website or anyone know of a better place? thanks
