As this is a public forum, I won't go into FFDO specifics, but no "backpack" has ever been required, especially now,...... nuff said. And yes a backpack looks very unprofessional. Also, there is some unwritten IPOD etiquette. Listening seated at the gate for a long wait is one thing. Walking down or up the jet-way, earbuds installed, trying in vain to sing along with Britney is something else entirely. It screams "my responsibilities are not important, or not important to me." Either way, it's not the image we should be projecting. Before you ask, yes, I am the arbiter of such things.

You hit the nail on the head. Tell some airman in Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Germany, or even the USA that he's not paid like a professional and should look like crap. (You know, the ones being sent off to war for $1300 a month, and looking like they just walked out of a military uniform shop). They'll tell you it's all about PRIDE, PROFESSIONALISM and self worth. If you want to look like crap, go ahead, but don't expect to get much respect. You've apparently not earned it.
BTW, I've seen pilots being interviewed at CAL who were shot down because they'd been seen walking around looking like crap in their "other" company uniform. CAL didn't want to continue promoting their "look". But hey, if you're paid slob wages, then please dress like one, and see where it gets you.

Well aren't you giving us a good name....thats a horrible way to think about it. Let me ask you this, when you get each raise/upgrade/better job/ are you going to care more then? You certainly don't come off sounding like a professional pilot who cares about his own personal appearance.

As to the uniform. Why not the canary pant suit hillary sports??

Great attitude!!! You'll certainly go far in this industry. BE-99's may be as far as you ever get though. If I was your boss and saw you looking like crap I'd think you certainly didn't deserve to be paid more since people who make less take more pride in THEMSELVES .......... Wow have you go a lot to learn................

And for pete's sake, take your uniform off in public. I went to a restaurant and saw two pilots wearing epaulets and their crew badges while they were sitting down and eating. This place was no where near an airport too. C'mon, you are not on that tight of a schedule to at least take your epaulets and badge off.
