Default CAL acquisition of XJT

Could CAL have announced the release of 69 aircraft in order to lower the stock price of XJT so that they can purchase them at a rock bottom price as a profitable airline?

Would that put them in a better overall position for a possible merger or buyout of UAL when they emerge from bankruptcy?

Food for thought!

10 years ago, I would have said absolutely. Different ball game now with everyone bidding on contracts. Delta being a prime example.

I think CAL sold us off only because they were selling off everything to try and stay out of Bankruptsy. Since 911 they have sold XJET and COPA and anyhing they can to make it look like less red ink. Who knows what CALs plans are and we will all see what will happen as these next few months pass by.
