I figured it had to be something like that which is why I asked. And I totally understand that rationale. If you can make more money at Cape, have a better QOL, spend more time with the baby and it doesn't put a damper on your career goals, then I say go for it. I'm sure they'll just about cream their pants when they smell the jet A on you during the interview

Hey Alex, I think it would be a good move for the reasons you specified. As you know I too have a young one and a wife in PVD and think Cape is a great idea. I dont have the times yet for them but I would be happy to take over your slot in PVD, hehe. If you decide to go be sure to let me know how it works out and good luck.

www.flycapeair.com says 1000 TT, however I think they have hired individuals with lower times.
SIC Hawker pilot. 60k a year, plus overtime.
I picked up the line this guy just vacated, (a rotation of 2 weeks of 4/3 in STX, a week off, 2 weeks of 5/2 in HYA) He had been a 402 Captain for about a year and a half. He got a call from his climbto350 resume.
Flexjet, Netjet, et al, are also popular places people move on to. Or there are lots of 9k lifers. If you live on Cape Cod, want to be home every night, its not a bad gig at all. New hire Captains now make $15/ duty hour, with 1.5 overtime after 8 in a day, or 40 a week. Carib based pilots get a $3/ hour override. On my line, 9k will furnish me with a condo and a car while I'm in STX.
Its a year round gig, so long as the state EAS money holds out.

This is what I love about Cape Air and there's a lot to love. Most airlines when faced with pilot shortages, lower there mins and offer sim/jet transition courses for the low timers.
Cape on the other hand raises pay! What a concept!
Alex,
Got for it. Read about the link they are working on w/JB.
Just got to find out if they hire old guys like me part time for the Cape and Islands

Alex,
Glad to hear from one of the folks who just wants to make an honest living FLYING and isnt all about the image. The 2 or 3 guys I have known who went the Cape route had no bad things to say (and that says alot).
I thought (and still occationally) about talking to Cape, but the bases aren't my favorites (just not my cup of tea). Good luck. And if they aren't the folks for you, just keep looking.... there are always good jobs that spring up that will fit your bill.

Is IND the base or is South Bend and Evansville the base. On their web page it says South Bend and Evansville.
Is there a lot of "extra" work that is included or is the majority of the work actual pilot duties?
Any information would be helpful. I really like the idea of being home almost every night.

I just checked the December bid... the lines were not in IND, only SBN or EVV. And it was a rotating 4/2 schedule. ie 4 AM shifts, 2 days off, 4 PM shifts 2 days off, etc.
There is no "extra" work involved. There are no flight attendants to brief the pax, and no one else to tidy up the plane after the pax get out. But when you're not flying, you are pretty much free to grab a bite or sit in the crew room and read the paper. Without a cockpit door you sure can't do it enroute!
