UConn, tell your buddy to just walk away from that deal. No job is worth it if you have to pay for a transition course. Especially in today's market.

On a side note- more power to all you 9E guys for standing up to management! It's great to see a pilot group out there with some cojones. Hopefully more will follow in your footsteps.

"how much does a line cross affect future hiring potential?"

Are you kidding me?

There is no excuse for crossing the line in this biz. It's not necessary. Nor is it a good idea.

Crossing the line is career suicide. People never forget. I think that's great.

Career suicide for failing training! A good friend of mine washed out of your screwed up groundschool. He is now in captain upgrade training at expressjet. He said the training there left alot to be desired.

1. Don't pay for training other than your certificates. And if someone else (the company) pays for them even better.

2. NEVER. EVER. Cross a picket line. Call in sick. Don't show up. Walk the picket line. But don't work struck work.

3. Enoy a career as a non-SCAB. Ask for a jumpseat KNOWING that if they look at their SCAB list you are not on it. Not sweating every single time you request a jumpseat. You don't have to be Ho-Jet sitting silently in the crew van, hiding your crew ID everytime someone asks you who you work for. Have some pride. You're better than that crap.

4. There are other jobs around right now that are better where you will not be in danger of being a SCAB. Seriously. Even Mesa pilots are brothers and sisters.

5. Don't work struck work.

6. Don't work struck work.

BTW, did I mention something about not working struck work?

I had a Capt last year give me the 3rd degree....because my name was similar to a UAL scab from 1985. 23 years ago and it's like it was yesterday...

What, UPS?

Whatever, dude. All the best to your bud. Senior F/O's at UPS make more than legacy Capts. That beats Xjet by a long shot. If you can't hack it at UPS, though, I guess you could always get by at a regional. Whatever works for you..

It is a bummer when people ask how scabbing will affect future hireability. The downside of scabbing is that you are branded with a scarlet letter...but the true downside is that you have to live with the inner knowledge that you are a scab. Weighing cost/benefit on something as fundamental as ethical behavior seems unclean.
