Default Parking Lot Bandits

Crazy Question...

Do you guys ever see crazies (pilots) camping out in the provided parking lots in RV's, campers or even their vehicles?

I am going to be joining the 121 world shortly with a limited budget and I was tossing this around if I have to sit reserve. I have a vision of a national lampoons cousin eddie type enviroment. Dont worry I wont bring the wife and kid like when the airport met the trailer LOL!

I love those movies. "Reeeaal tomato ketchup Eddie?" "Nothing but the best!". I've heard of pilots using RV's, I've never actually seen/met any.

TSA has a couple in RIC...One of 'em got towed one time...and the guy got back from his trip ripping mad...he was cursing them under his breath and half-yelling "They towed my house, damnit!" Classic

I know someone that used to do that exact same thing. He just left his RV in the parking lot at the airport and slept in it when he couldn't commute home or was on reserve. He would then either fly home or drive it home if he had enough time off. He said it was cheaper than a hotel even with the bad gas mileage. Of course, it was a really small airport that didn't charge for parking and only had one airline. It would probably be a lot harder to get away with it at larger airports, although you could always find a WalMart and park it there...

The monthly parking charge for an airport employee lot is just a fraction of a crash pad.

Unfortunately DEN just made parking the RV illegal. There are a couple parked there right now, who knows what they will do after the first of the year.

I do know of someone that at one point in time slept in his car and in the terminal at Denver. Since they had the gym there to shower he said he had everything he needed. For entertainment he would go hang out at Barnes and Noble in town for many hours of the day.

By the way it was not an RV it was an econo-box.

I was under the impression there was an entire Hooverville set up in the parking lot of LAX.
