Default Bose QC2 w'uflymike vs. Bose X

I have heard great things about both of them. I am in the market for a new headset, preferably an ANR. I am just trying to decide which one to spend money on.. Really on a CFI salary the Bose X is out of the question. Does anyone have experience with them on a side by side comparison?

EDIT: or even the DC x11's... I havent heard much about them. I tried a pair on once, they seemed nice. My pair of DC's now are getting beat and they clamp my head to death. I figure when I am a CFI I will get less fatigued with something light like the bose (or maybe thats just an excuse to buy a new gadget) I also heard that Bose is discontinuing the QC2 because of the uflymike adaptor. They want you to spend a grand on a pair of the X's. I dont blame them I guess.

The Bose X is worth every penny if you can afford it. Look at it as an investment.

Everyone who knows the Bose X seems to swear by them (as opposed to swearing AT your skull-busting DCs), and says they're worth the cost (*gulp*) so I can't argue with that.

But I will say I've been using the Lightspeed XFRs (Cross-Country) and I'm very happy with them. Great passive and active noise reduction and extremely comfortable. Cheap, and even cheaper if you can find a pair on eBay. If you want to really trim costs, even the Lightspeed Solos do a great job without ANR.

I've only used the X once and it's a great headset, but for the money, Lightspeeds can't be beat.

Not sure how the UFlyMike stacks up against the Bose X side by side, but those that use either at my airline love 'em. I would stay far far away from the DC X11's if I were you, and I think many others will agree with me. I started a thread based on a side-by-side comparison that I did a while back....

I've worn Lightspeeds...not impressed, seemed to have a lot of clamping pressure still, and was bulky enough to double as a football helmet. Maybe I'm just spoiled with my Bose X's.

Edit: If you're concerned on the price of the Bose X, Ebay is worth checking out. Heck, even if you buy the new Bose for $1000, and don't like them for some reason, you can easily pawn them on Ebay for $800...not much to lose...and you can't say the same for a Lightspeed or David Clark.

My understanding of the QC2/3 is the ANR is not as good as the X. It's still pretty nice but not the same.

I love the UflyMike. They are very affordable and work great. Remember...they only work with the Bose headset that surrounds the ear; not the one that sits on top your ear.

A CFI can write a new headset as a tax deductible business expense, not that it alleviates much of the cost, but every little bit helps!

Also, you pay $129 up front and $89/month.

Is that only if you buy directly from Bose? Not that it matters, the price is the same.

Honestly, I'm not sure but I think so. My FO last week had them and told me that.
