Default The U.S. Economy and Regional Hiring in 2008

With many experts saying that the U.S. economy may have some more tough times in the year(s) ahead, how will this affect the next year in the hiring department?

I guess the answer depends on how correct the "analysts" prove to be.

SkyWest is scheduled to hire 350 - 400 within the first six months. That is without any new flying being announced. However, I am sure that if new flying coming it has been factored in already.

It will hurt the majors more than the regionals.

Sadly I agree. We operate for less so they'll stick to the highly profitable routes and cover the rest with us.

Depends on how hard hit certain sectors of the economy will be hit the hardest and if its short lived. If consumers dont have money, then they don't fly. If we have two or more quartes of negative growth, I dont see how pilot hiring at the regionals, majors or fractionals can continue to be positive. I wouldn't read much into scheduled projections of pilot hiring, EVER, the industry is just way to fluid in my opinion. This industry has hired people on Monday and started furloughing on Tuesday.
