ASA Good or Bad?
#11
Every company has it s good and bad it doesnt matter if you are flying around at 500mph or crunching numbers at the office as a banker, ASA is a pretty good place to work , and willl get better if the TA goes through...i just got done w IOE and havent had any complaints yet, i got great training and had a good experience thus far, theres barely any reserve , maybe a month on the 50 seater, and upgrade is about 2.5 years and dropping, if you commute, almost whereve you live is doable from ATL, the pay and work rules will get better if the TA goes through, the schedule seems to be a downfall here from what most guys say, i dunno , i cant add much on that as i am not yet a lineholder, but regardless , we are profitable, Delta does like us , and Skywest makes money so i dont think we are going anywhere, good luck in your searches ..I did my homework on pretty much every regional before i made my decision, i suggest you do thesame, and look past first year pay , that shouldnt be the deciding factor on whether or not its the place for you...

I think that I have narrowed down my searches to Asa, Comair, and Republic. The big thing for me is if the TA goes through then ASA will be a no brainer, that's if they do hire me. I got a call from pilot recruitment last week and they are going to have me come in for an interview in March. By then I should have 800 hrs and hopefully around 70 multi. But I have heard that the sim evaluation is tough and really determines al ot. I have no CRJ Sim time so going from flying a Seneca and an Aztec to a RJ sim for a job will be tough. Is there anywhere that I can go to get a couple of CRJ sim lessons before going in?

save yourself some cash and try to get ahold of some memory items and limitations! and get ahold of ms flight sim and play around with the CRJ and go over all the flows! most of the skills required to pass initial training are memorization and task management! Dont get me wrong you have to have some "stick" skills, but the majority of the initial training is knowing the profiles, call outs, instrument approach procedures, and memory items. Getting to know the flight guidance panel is a biggie too! if money is no issue, go ahead and get some sim time. but many I know and myself included made it through 121 training coming from flight instructing in semenholes and senecas!
PS If you have a Girlfriend/Boyfriend, change your number during training, almost every person i know that has busted an oral or checkride spent way too much time on the phone instead of studying!
Cheers,
SK

Are there any good books on the CRJ, or does ASA have any old CRJ training manuals that I could buy that might help me get ahead of the game? If I were to get on the ATR then how long is it before I get into the CRJ? Its not that I am anti-turboprop but I’ve always wanted to fly the CRJ. I grew up next to CVG and watched Comair's RJ's and always thought it looked like a cool airplane to fly.
