Do I Have A Future Here?

Passengers don't care
Passengers don't care. They only want cheap tickets. Why would they give a hoot about what a bunch of party fun play boys earn? Why would they care about pilot working conditions?
Being an airline pilot is supposed to be fun right? You guys are supposed to like your jobs correct? Then deal with the down side. If you want money and respect then get a real job.

Real Job
Do you think dentists are in it for the fun? Do plumbers start out as kids dreaming of pipe wrenches? Most people have difficult jobs and are paid accordingly.
Pilots get to have fun.

So I will assume then as a young child you sat around dreaming of land acquisitions and real estate contracts???? I gotta say man, there are a lot of times that I DO have fun as a pilot despite the low pay.

Have fun
Real people work real jobs and get real wages. Pilot don't. Flying is a hobby job and gets paid as such. Most of your compensation is because you guys are supposedly having fun.

Mailmen make more than 44K and it is a real job.

Have your fun but also realise that most of your compensation is in fun and not pay. How is anyone outside of aviation supposed to take pilots seriously when approached on pay issues? What if artists and English majors protested their low wages?

My guess is airlines don't pay their pilots well/not well because its based on the fun factor. High school business classes would have taken care of that ignorance.

This 2nd year AWAC FO will make more than $44k this year (including per-diem). Some will make more and some will make less.
Given the average 300 hours TAFB I have each month, I tend to think I have a "real job". I enjoy what I do and was 100% aware of my income expectations flying an RJ. That said, I am a professional pilot and as such I expect to be treated and compensated commiserate with that position and responsibility...much like any other professional.
I realize the path to "true financial independence" is through developing your own business...and I also realize that at this point in my life I have little desire to spend 7 days and 90+ hours per week investing on such a venture, nor do I want to leverage what savings my wife and I do have to get started.
I'll let you know at 55 if I made the right decisions along the way.

Artists and English Majors arent responsible for getting 50+ lives to destinations across the country safely. As much fun as we like to have...these people put their lives in our hands
