I have three teachers in my family. You have no idea what you are talking about. Teachers bring homework home and grade it, have to do lesson plans, attend meetings, parent-teacher conferences, after school activities, etc.

Similar to our "TAFB" concept. I know that my Aunt spends a lot of time at home working on lesson plans, activities, and grading homework. But you're right SkyHigh being a pilot is the worst job in the world. Being you would be so much better.

Lets not forget that he mentions these teachers' SECOND job. More than likely the reason their salaries were considered high to him.

Yeah... http://swz.salary.com/salarywizard/l...D03000011.html

Oh well though you can't win an argument with this guy... Teachers K-12 have a glass ceiling... they can't make much more than $65,000 (depending on location...skyhigh---you'll probably point out to me that a teacher in Beverly Hills, CA makes $80,000 after 18 years of service).

CaptChris.

I 100% agree with you. I remember my mother working really hard with lesson plans, grading tests and homework. Teaching is a very rewarding job, and most make decent money, but it is hard work.

But your comment certainly can be construed as work should be a constant source of fun which just isn't reality. Work is fulfilling, but very often not fun at all.
Golf.....thats fun. Beer on Sunday watching football......thats fun. Anything that requires you to be away from your family to survive.....not much fun.
I agree it is a crime to be forced away from your family and not be well compensated for it.

Real jobs get real wages in kind for the efforts it took in training and education to get there. No status. No fun. High Pay. Jobs like: Plumber, Dentist, Accountant and Police Officer.

Other jobs are of the leisure/fun variety. Big fun and Big status. Low pay. Jobs like: Fishing Guide, Ski instructor, Airline Pilot.

Then again some jobs people are drawn to for personal satisfaction reasons. low fun, some status, Big satisfaction. Lower wages. Jobs like: Teacher, minister, social worker.

People are paid according to the total compensation they receive and drives they may have for pursuing the profession. As individuals we collectively decide on our pay by what we accept. No one is going to drill teeth unless they are handsomely rewarded however everyone will line up to put on a brand new uniform and play airline pilot all day.

In the end we all collectively have created employer expectations by the great lengths we go through to get the job and then the massive sacrifices we endure to keep them.

Want a real income and life then get a real job. Simple.

I am sure that it is a hard job. I wouldn't want to do it. However they do get a lot in return. Much of their compensation is in job satisfaction.

Airline pilots sacrifice much more however. They have less job security, no retirement and are in a profession that is loosing respect and is in decline.

Pick your poison I guess. If you are happy with your situation then don't be a teacher.

Which is exactly what a lot of people were saying earlier in this thread. Being a pilot is the best part-time job I've ever had--and I mean that. I work for a good regional... fly with great crews....and am very involved in stocks. However, for most people--just doing this job is fun, rewarding, and they enjoy their office.

Skyhigh---I don't know what your deal is.... but of the 3,000+ posts that you have....I doubt there are 10 that have helped someone on this board like you claim they do. You say you are saving lives....for the most part you are wasting peoples lives while they sort through the garbage that you write on here. Go fly your C-150 and stay off the "regional" forum. I am sure that most readers of this forum will agree that You bring nothing to the table.

Get out of here! That is the last resort of someone who can not admit defeat.

My deal is that I enjoy writing, miss flying and feel that I have an important perspective to offer. I have been both and airline pilot and now have a new life outside of aviation. I am here to testify to the world that you all are paying a high price for your chosen profession. It is undeniable to those who really care to see the evidence.

Often it takes time and reflection to measure what has been lost. My only goal is to get people to understand the true and full sacrifice that is required to have a career as an airline pilot.

Default Math

I have done the math:

Teachers Time away from home per year. 8 hours a day. 185 days a year = 1480 hours per year.

Pilots Time away from home. Estimated at 325 hours a month = 3900 hours per year.
