Do I Have A Future Here?
#141
At one time nearly every 60 year old regional airline captain had plans of moving on to a major. Time and statistics could make AWAC your career destination. Then what will you do?
Not everyone gets a nice major airline job at the end, in fact most do not.
The catch is moving on to a major.

Like putting a dog so sleep all we need to do is make it comfortable for them and send them off with what dignity the industry has allowed them to keep. As for me; I have 39 years to be in the 121 business. Call me a land shark but, like I said (TO ME) "Do I have a Future Here" is about me and all of the other pilots that still have dreams and plans to further their goals and careers beyond Air Wisconsin.
I just want to see Air Wisconsin grow and prosper and take care of their employees like they used to before I even thought of coming here. It is too bad the management has taken it to this level.

Well then if you know school teachers.. ( not college professors ) who are making 6 figures... they better thank their lucky stars because they are the UPS /FED EX pilots of the teaching business....it just isnt so for the vast majority of teachers.
Well Sky I guess we will just have to agree to agree on some things and disagree on alot of things..... and hey... I didnt know that Cessna 150's had Captains.....LOL

The cold hard fact ( something Sky and I CAN agree on ) is that NOT everyone will reach the "promised" land of aviation with FED EX or whom ever else you might want to lump in there. There simply isnt room for every one at every level. Its sorta like the Military.. there are alot more LT's and Capts than O-6's running around. Many by choice, others by happen stance will make a career out of XJT, RAH, AWAC or any number of other jet type carriers. Is that bad... or wrong.. NO,,,,and it certainly doesnt make them bad pilots or people for making that decision.

There are alot of teachers who make high incomes, and I know that for a fact because the school districts are required to disclose it. Check out this website and you will see (obviously income levels differ in each geographic region: www.thechampion.org. I totally agree with your point that not every pilot reaches the "promised land". That is true in any career. Most end up in the middle of the pack, but might as well being doing something you enjoy with the potential of reaching the pinnacle. Life is to short to be miserable with what you are doing. Not to mention, I know 3 regional pilots who chose to stay at the regionals b/c their QOL was good, and they had businesses on the side that supplemented their income.

Rick... i agree!!! All I am saying is that the 6 figure teacher is like the FED EX / UPS guys of today.... they are a small percentage of the whole work force in that career.
If you read my posts I believe that many of todays Jet/regional pilots will stay there as a career, and they should not be chastised for it.

I have a general question for you. I have looked at the paygrades on APC, but realistically if I decided to stay at a regional for 8 yrs on average what could I be expecting to make (assuming I am have been a CA for at least 3 yrs). Im not going into the airlines for money, but I am just curious.
Thanks,
Rick

Clark - In seven years he couldn't find a job?
Ellen - Well, Catherine says he's holding out for a management position.
Clark shruggs and quietly smiles...

okay rick here goes....using the following assumptions.... pay based on min guarantee, with no per diem, and no credit higher than block. Remember each persons lines from month to month may very. Block hours and CREDIT hours can vary widely as well as per diem. But for a SIMPLE look, MIN GUARANTEE and no per diem, flying left seat on a 50 seat jet. ALL pay 8 year pay under current contract. Some companies may be in negotiations NOW.
RAH E145 $65,700
XJT E145 $65,700
AE E145 $65,700
AWAC RJ200 $64,800
Mesaba RJ200 $61,200
