Think it's been mentioned before, but wouldn't the senior captains at AE be taking a pay cut if they moved up to FO on the mainline AA fleet? Since every captain is at least 7 years in, lot are probably maxed out on the AE payscale...i.e. good money and great schedules. Though I think the prospects are dim for any AE guys going to AA, I would imagine not all AE guys would make the move, even if it meant flying a big jet.
Furthermore, any guy who is senior enough to be flowed through (Captain with 2000-7000 PIC turbine time) would have been very competitive at CAL, NWA, Delta, United, Southwest, etc. etc. etc...so one would think that the guys sitting way Senior are happy where they are...if they wanted big jets and even bigger pay eventually, why aren't they at the aforementioned airlines already???
Of the 1,500 or so who get numbers, many might retire, leave, or stay at AE even if they're called up.

Actually 7-9 year AE captains are making about $71-75 an hour.... 2nd year AA FO on the 80 is at $73 an hour. We will have some guys that will go into the A300 and 767 which around $81-$83 an hour. I don't see the huge paycut you are talking about. QOL is also much better.
Before you say I could I know.... I was at Simmons prior to AA.
For what it is worth.

you know I fly with a lot of CA's that say they cant or dont want to go to a MAJOR and take a pay cut, but I THINK YOU GUYS ARE NUTS, especially at an airline like AA, even their concessionary contract kicks ass pay wise compared to places like CAL.

I second that SAAB. These Eagle captains have no common sense. They are causing Eagle major pilot shortages. No one wants to work for a company that will take 7+ years to advance. I really miss Texas, but I am glad I am at a place where I can advance soon.

According to you no one wants to work for a company that will take 7+ years to advance. What do you think the Eagle captains are looking at if they go to AA? It's alot longer than 7 years.

How do you explain their staffing shortage then? I know everyone needs new hires, but Eagle can't even get enough in the door to interview. As far as going to AA, who wouldn't? Who cares if you are not a captain at that level? The pay is excellent as an FO.

Eagle's staffing problem doesn't mean the captains have no common sense. AA still has a bunch of guys on furlough, so it's not even an issue. I don't think it's that easy of a decision to be a senior captain at eagle and leave for AA (QOL, seniority, even pay). One bad qtr or one bad event (terrorism), and you could go from senior capt to unemployed.

After looking at the payscales, yeah, you're right, it's not a drop in pay...but no one has answered this question yet--why haven't the AE captains gone to other majors yet?
What is the explanation for having 7 years of experience as an RJ pilot (certainly enough turbine PIC to get a solid look from SWA, CAL, DAL, NWA, etc. etc.) and NOT having left? Have these guys honestly been waiting around this whole time because they're crossing they're fingers about going back/up to AA???
Am I missing something, like do AE guys have some sort of awesome pension which they aren't vested in yet? Some of those dudes could've gone to SWA 3 or so years ago and if they had they'd be close to going capt. at SWA. Is it some sort of dream to fly 777's longhaul?

PS> I'm not saying it's a bad thing AE captains haven't left for other companies yet, just to fly a bigger jet...I don't think there is anything wrong with flying an RJ your whole life if you've got good schedules and decent captain pay.
