Flagship 3701, AOPA
Some people might still be a little edgy talking about the Pinnacle 3701 flight but there is a good artcile on it and how we can learn from it in this months AOPA magazine. Page 135 for anyone who gets it. If you dont' receive it then you need to pay your dues to AOPA and sign up. They do A LOT of good.

Flying above 410 is overrated. Especially for the poor guy that has to wear the mask. The only time I'll go up there is to get over tops of weather. Otherwise the risk and other associated pains (continuous use O2) isn't worth it.

Anything above 410 requires one crewmember to be on O2. As for why you go up there, dunno. We fly around regularly at FL390/400/410 because:
a) we can.
b) it's always blue on top (if you can climb there).
c) you get direct a lot more often when you're above 95% of the traffic.
d) it's nice to go over top the weather.
e) it's even nicer to go over the top (direct), when you hear everybody else slogging it out down below (uhh, center- can we get twenty right for weather?)
f) the winds can be better (the start dying off above 380 or so).
g) fuel burns are better.
