Comair updates?
#9931
For those who have not gotten the latest news from MP:
Fellow Comair Pilots,
This week we have seen quite a few changes and issues arise that directly affect furloughed pilots. Please make sure to review this information and if you have any questions feel free to contact me.
1. Comair Director of Operations ******** B***** has stated that the collections letter sent to furloughed pilots last week was sent in error. I have been told a retraction letter will be mailed and that no collection attempts will occur until a pilot is no longer in furlough status. It is disappointing after such struggles to correct the company’s original error that this oversight was made. ALPA will accept no other resolution to this matter then what is contractually allowed. Once this information is received in writing I will share it with you immediately.
2. Comair Management has also agreed that Furlough Pass Benefits were changed incorrectly for the first 30 days of furlough. Currently I have been told by an 11/05 furloughee that on Friday they had regained their original travel benefits. I have not received notification from the company on what their proposal for resolution of this will be including improper yield fare charges or when it will revert back to the post 30 days benefits. I will keep you updated once we receive further information.
3. Many of you may receive a letter form Fidelity stating that you must cash out or roll your 401K account to a IRA because you are no longer an active employee and have less than $5,000.00 in your account. This is currently being reviewed by ALPA National due to the tax liability it creates if you cash out your 401K and also the loss of the Company Match if you roll your 401K or cash it out because vestment does not occur to year 5. Please do not make a decision until we have all of the information the earliest deadline I am aware of right now is 12/26/2008.
4. Several furloughed pilots have reported problems in reaching pilot payroll to request a vacation buyout. When calling pilot payroll please record the date and times you leave messages. After a reasonable amount of time if you have not received a return phone call please contact the Chief Pilots office for assistance. If following these steps does not work please contact me so that I can hopefully expedite the process.
5. The Comair MEC will be holding a regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, November 18 beginning at 1:00pm at the Erlanger office. At the conclusion of this meeting probably on Wednesday, November 19 the MEC will be electing a new MEC Chair, Vice Chair and Secretary/Treasurer. If you are interested in attending any or all of this meeting it is open to all Comair Pilots.
As things change I will update you as soon as information becomes available. Often I am not aware of an issue until you contact me so please do not hesitate to call me or email me to pass information along so that it can help us all.

Did anyone else get a bill the other day for a merger assessment and union dues?
Like really? I have zero income and regardless of who's FAULT it is for no deal getting done (alpa or mgmt)...ALPA didn't get the job done for me. How am I/ we expected to pay this?

If you guys want results, you need to vote in an MEC that doesn't have tunnel vision . I'm just saying. I was TWU LEC back when was at American. There's a time to take a stand and a time to be flexible. Witht he economy and the industry being as it is, now would be a time to be a little flexible...of course not too much. My sources at DL tell me that all this crap is coming straight from RA and EB, who are not happy with Comair MEC. Comair is now interfering with their merger plans for DCI. They are making sure the whole company is feeling the hurt. Them taking away the last -900 was a shot across the bow from Delta management. It's slowly trickling down to the other employee groups that ALPA is a big reason for what's going on. I've been told that Comair will be fluid like this for pretty much most of 2009. Please don't flame me for this, I'm just passing out some intel. Oh and my sources have been pretty much dead on so far with intel and what has happened to us so far.

I don't think they've thought that far ahead. They believe that with the MEC vote coming up that if they put the squeeze on the company, especially the pilot group, they will vote in new MEC members who will be more apt to negotiate than the current MEC members.
#9938
Do not complain about the Company and the MEC if you do not Vote. Go to the meeting and vote to keep the MEC or vote them out. Do whatever you think is the right thing to do, but do not sit home and compalin on this forum., becuase no one is listening. GO OUT AND VOTE for the future of Comair.
