On another note, I'm curious on what some of the soon to be furloughees are planning on doing for work? Who is planning on waiting for a recall? Anyone care to share?

I was really surprised to listen to so many guys that have no clue what they are going to do after they are furloughed. From the sounds of it, the younger and recently hired ones are just going to move back in with their parents and bum of off them. Awesome!

I have no idea what I am doing. It is impossible to find another job right now with so many people on the street. I'm prolly gonna try and instruct part time and find a non aviation job. I don't ever expect to be recalled here and there is only about 20 being furloughed above me. It really does seem like the doors are closing slowly. There are 15 planes parked over in remote everyday now and there haven't been any furloughs yet.

Well let me change what I said. I have one plan right now and it doesn't involve flying. I am still trying to find a flying job that doesn't include flying for peanuts. So I know what I am doing but I don't know what I am doing at the same time except that I finally am moving from Kentucky.
I'm surprised nobody has said anything about people whoring them selves out. I'm sure there are so many low time guys dying to fly free. I hope everybody stands up and doesn't fly for B.S. pay because they can't find a job.

This economy that we are living in right now is the worst since the Depression. Let's all look at the big picture for a second. While oil is on the decline, this industry is still 100% dependant on it. Just my opinion, but that oil will stay low through the upcoming election. Watch what happens after the election. Watch what happens when Putin burps on Obama, or McCain. Watch what happens when North Korea fires another test missle. I think you get the point. Gas is still yet going to go higher until we become less dependant on it and as of right now nothing is being done in this industry to change that.
I would like to ask those who are optomistic a few questions..
What is going to happen with the industry in the next year, or two that would warrent all of the airlines gaining business and calling back all of their furloughs, or hiring?
How do you stay optomistic that we will gain flying for someone else? Everyone is furloughing, or at least cutting capacity. Who would we gain flying for? United? Get real..... Why would United have all kinds of extra flying sitting around right now?
Let's give it to them in our next contract negotiations. What exactly are you going to do? What do you think will get better? Pay? Fat chance. More days off? Good luck. There is no way that things are going to get better anytime soon. There will be very little momentum for the pilot group going into such negotiations.
I know I sound really bitter, but after 5 years I have seen both sides of this company and neither side has substance to give this pilot group hope. Now let's merge all of our problems with those of Mesaba, Pinnacle, and/or Compass. Delta will never be a possibility. Do you think things are going to get better?

I would propose fuel prices are driven by things much bigger than U.S. elections, and whomever is in the white house. We Americans believe the world revolves around us, but as we feed China's and India's economy with our short sighted consumerism, over time we become less relevant.
Today there are a billion more consumers of oil than there were ten years ago. It may well be that flying 50, 70, or 76 seat jets is not economically viable five or ten years into the future. We're already starting to see the effect of increasing global demand on the viability of 50-seat jets in an economy whose credit bingeing mantra is "I want it all, and I want it now".
From a purely economic standpoint, those facing furlough would do well to get enrolled in school again to prepare for a career that has a brighter future. What that is exactly, I don't know. Politics looks pretty secure.
