I was on long call the last 3 months, I almost broke guarantee they kept me that busy. Now I'm back on short call and have yet to fly this month, which I wouldn't mind if I was at home and not in the crashpad.

I have figured out that long call reserve is literally hit or miss on a month to month basis. I have been bidding reserve for the last 4 months or so just to be at home most nights. The 1st month I flew 6 hours, then the next month 81, then 13, then 74, and now i haven't flown in 3 weeks. I can't complain but still hate how they assign trips based on days available. I think its luck of the draw all pending on days available.

My technique for getting the most flying as possible is when bidding to build a reserve line that has groups of 4 days at a time. Usually you'll end up with your 3 hard day group, 4 hard day group, 2 soft days together, 2 soft days apart, while working 4 day groups and usually a 2 day group. Then bid to fly A3 or A4. Usually I'll get 60 hours during the monthly rundown.

I had reserve in August and flew 3 days 11 hours. Not bad. As for experienced FO's. To go to Key West, you have to have gone to a special use airport in the last 12 months or had training for one in the sim.

Are you serious about the special use airports? I just did an over night two nights ago in DCA. Maybe that's why they called. That or 5 years as an FO flying in and out of special use airports. They probably wound up calling an FO with 6 months for the job. I agree with you guys though. Pass a check-ride and you are qualified. Tons of reserves, so call one. This company is really has no business sense.
