Ever flown with the guy who insists on using Half bank the entire flight? Including on the SID's, STAR's, and being vectored for approach...I'm not sure where guys get some of this crap.
I have also been told I'm not allowed to descend in SPEED mode with the spoilers up...

How about pilots who climb in speed mode? Particularly at high altitudes.
"Should I advise center we're climbing at 100 f.p.m.?" is my usual comment for this technique, as the airplane wallows from 100 f.p.m. to 900 f.p.m.
My favorite response to my nausea reduction technique written above, from an individual I'm scheduled to fly with a couple of times next month (the most "making stuff up" individual I've ever flown with):
"You should climb in speed mode while in icing conditions so you don't risk stalling the airplane."
How about being a professional pilot and monitoring what the aircraft is doing?

This is half-way true. In Vol 2 of the FSM, Maneuvers and procedures, it says that using SPEED mode for descent should not be used with flaps extended. I was squawked on that once while on a line check in the 50 seater. I don't remember exactly where it said it, but it is in there somwhere.
Then again it doesn't say prohibited(I'm guessing, I'm not going to look it up..it isn't very important)...splitting hairs I know.

I asked the line check airman why it says that. He gave the standard answer: "Because it's company protocol". I was looking for a more thorough answer, something like, "because a rolling moment may occur" or "because the flaps will come unhinged" or something like that. I have asked several people, including the head of Flight Standards, and no one seems to know the reason for it being in there.
