Personally, I think more and more people will switch to the 70/90, because that's where the growth will be. I've heard several people think/say the same thing. "The growth will be on the 70/90, reserve is so much easier on the 70/90, trips are better, blah, blah, blah...". Don't get me wrong, I was thinking the same thing and now I am going to the 70/90, back on reserve, even though I'm holding a line on the 50, but everything in this industry is a risk, you don't know what is going to happen. Last time I talked to planning about a month or so ago they said they got more flying for this summer than anticipated. Not sure if there is something in the works?! I don't think the trips are that much better on the 70/90, I've seen a lot of pairings that had 3-4.5 hr. sits here and there, and there are a lot of 30+ hr. layovers. Unless you like that kind of stuff. Also, when the next vacancy bid comes out for more 70/90 FOs, I expect it to go pretty senior, just like the last vacancy bid for 70/90 Captains. Most junior guy awarded CR70 CA has been here close to 17 years. Now, if we do get more -900s (from Mesa for example) I wouldn't be surprised if (mis)-management would decide to base a few in JFK.

70/90s in JFK is a scenario I have always wondered about. I see it as a potential management tactic to get senior 70/90 drivers to quit when faced with the possibility of having to be based and/or fly out of JFK.

Don't worry about the reserve. I was a line holder in the 50 before I moved over last fall. I was on reserve for 2 months and it was not that bad and I easily broke guarantee both months. When you finally get your line you'll see a difference. Yes, it's true you're getting long layovers, but there's where the trip rig usually kicks in and at least you get paid for it. I don't mind 30 hours in Ft Mayers or Miami, drinking beer on the beach and getting paid for it. In my opinion the flying is better. Feels that way anyway. Usually only 2-3 legs a day (with a 3.5 hrs break in JFK....) and when you're flying the 90 you'll almost every time get a jetbridge.

I see Delta is adding a $15 fuel surcharge to Buddy Passes, making them more worthless then they already are. The flights are already full (or oversold) as it is, and it's very hard to non rev already.
I know fuel costs aren't management's fault, but one would think that a company could find ways to make additional money without taking it from employee's wallets. Oh wait... this is the corporate America in 2008.

I was riding from the airport to the hotel Tuesday afternoon and an American crew was on the van. They had flown in just before and there was a message waiting for them the fleet was grounded. They were supposed to stay with the plane for 24 hours then they were free to find their way home (their words). Of course, as it always is, it was to be the last leg of their trip.

One other question
During the conference call JS kept stating that our costs are out of line with other regionals.
Which costs does JS refer? Are these cost labor, operations, the rent at the GO?
Does anyone know?

Steve and Tom came into my recurrent ground and gave us some very informative information. While there's a chance it was mostly Kool-Aid, the bottom line is that both of them were in much higher spirits than they apparently have been with prior classes.
Without going into too much detail on this board, it seems April 22nd (on or about) we will get some sort of news. Whether it is good, bad, or worthless, I don't know, but apparently there is some sort of leadership meeting that happens about as often as electing a new pope and usually results in something major being announced.
Take it all with a grain of salt and keep your fingers crossed! Fly safe.....
