That's the dumbest thing I've seen....how is spending 12-15 years or more at a regional, and then not wanting to do that crap all over again for 20K on reserve with no upgrade in sight, entitlement?

Appartently you didn't read all the msgs. Some people feel like hanging out at a dying airline and want to be entitled to a job at a major without PIC time. Just because someone is an FO at OH for 6 to 9 yrs doesn't entitle them to be at a major, nor should they just sit and watch the world go by with out them. My point is, a person that stays at an airline where there is more downgrades than upgrades, may want to move on. Go to GL or Silver or what ever, put in 3 to 4 yrs, move to a major and be done with being a lifetime RJ FO. Or they can stay there and rot away for 15 yrs until they upgrade, then rot away for another 20 yrs till they die. Its an easy choice.

[QUOTE=8hourrule;1222654]Remind me again how the Delta TA created Delta jobs. 717 will replace dc-9 757 767 that are getting old. All of those work rule "improvements" that were voted in will further reduce the number of Delta jobs that are out there. I am bitter and I have every right to be. Glad things are working out for you though...........
Remind us again how the 717 will replace a 767. |

You have every right to be bitter? Get real. I wasted away at that dump for 10 yrs, 9500 hrs in the "loser cruiser". If your so bitter quit! Find another job. Oh I can't take a pay cut, oh I don't want to commute, oh me wo as me. I bet you are one of those 300 hr wonders that I had to give OE to after they turned you loose on line. Now you have 4000 hrs in the right seat no hopes of up grading. This industry is a bi***, you find the quickest way out and take it. If that means flying a caravan or 1900 to get some PIC time then do it. I paid 12k for my job at crustair, knowing I would move to the left seat in less than 2 yrs spend 3 yrs as a CA and be on my way. Unfortunatly, 9/11 and the enconomy took that dream out. So I spent 8 yrs as CA, KS and SB told me I was dumb for leaving, along with 10 or 15 other guys. Well, they are downgraded, I am here. I didn't vote for that TA bc scope wasn't strong enough. Your 50 seaters were leaving either way. Oh, the 73 900 will be replacng airframes too. We will have a net increase in airframes, along with at least 300 early retirements. So, don't tell me you have a right to be bitter. Sack up, get another job and start over before the rest of the cmr fo's get forced to start over. Good luck.

You should pile on! This group needs a kick in ths a@@. I don't know how many times I have heard, "I am just riding the ship down, or I will lock the doors on my way out." Just bc so many guys don't think there is anything else to do. Anyone under 31, work for ATC, that's the best gig out there. If you miss flying, go rent something.

Oh, I didn't know that you didn't want to work for another regional airline. You should have said that right away. Text ENTITLEMENT to 555-quit for instant hire into 777. Hurry the 1st 100 people will get a Captains Slot at 227,000/yr. See you as I drive past the soup line.

First of all, its called tough love, if you read all the posts you will see that I was in a similar spot. That place has their pilot group so beat down. They all think they are not worth crap. And it shows. If you want to work there forever, great, but if you want to get a job at a major. Leave get your pic time and move on. There is no shame in that. The guys that choose to leave and get an upgrade will just be 4 to 5 yrs sr to you. We had a 6 yr cmr guy that left to start over at compass on the jumpseat a few weeks ago. He said leaving was the best thing for him and his sole.
Hired pre 9/11, I have spent the past 10+ years at OH. I have had the opportunity to fly with many, many great people. Don’t get me wrong, we have our fair share of a**holes, but for the most part, this is a very professional and experienced group. To stereotype the entire group shows both your ignorance and arrogance. I’m happy things worked out for you, but please keep in mind everyone makes their own decisions in life for one reason or another. I entered this industry just prior to 9/11. I began this job single, with a clear goal of eventually working for a major. The events in September of that year were followed up a few weeks later with a wedding, and yes, we’re still together after 10+ years in this industry. A few short years later we were blessed with our first child. Now, I can proudly say I have 3 healthy children at home. My kids could care less that I fly a CRJ instead of a 320 or 757. My greatest reward is the wonderful welcome home I get when I return from a 4 day trip. Over the course of the last 11 years, I have changed. My priorities have changed. My goals have changed. It’s not all about ME. I could have left. I could have commuted for the PIC time. Instead, I chose to live in domicile. I chose to have a great quality of life. I have been able to watch my young children grow up. That time, those memories and experiences can never be replaced. I do not regret the decisions I have made both personally or professionally. I decided early on that I would put my family first and career second. While I understand that is not the typical mentality within this industry, the choice was mine I am comfortable and happy with that. Averaging 800+ flight hours per year, I’m burned out and in need of a change. I have absolutely no desire to start over regardless if it’s a regional, cargo or major airline. My next stop is out of the industry altogether, as I’m working on the exit strategy and setting future goals. While the future of OH is most certainly in doubt, I wish nothing but the best, regardless if your decision is to stay or to pursue other opportunities. It’s unfortunate that this great industry is filled with so much greed, hatred and negativity. |
Those are all good points. I want to offer congrats on managing to stay married and have 3 kids during your career. I still have several good friends there. My comments although brash aren't targeted for a guy like you. You seem content and not bitter. The comments are targeted to a guy that is ready and wants to move on. I see by your post, you are changing careers, that's great. I think it is a good move and at least you have a plan and not siting on your thumbs. Good luck to you.

I love flying with guys who say, "well these cuts can't come from us....we don't have that many 50s left." never enters their mind that we are being shutdown. How do you become so delusional that delta "needs" Comair. Next time I hear either of those comments, I'm opening the escape hatch and I'm out! /bud light lime!

I remember when i was there, a capt. I couldn't stand to fly with(5th on list?, x-eyed) said just vote yes (bk ta) we will grow and you'll upgrade in no time. Cuts won't hurt you. Damn he was smart. He also was the leader of that great group of line pilots that fought and lost to get the cp's a bk payout!!!
