I know right? First year pay sucks... nothing is worse.

I don't think this was clear... getting paid 23k sucks... making 0k is worse.

Your argument is invalid. I'll switch careers before I commute on reserve to another regional gig. I got hired at Compass in September, but I turned it down when I realized just how deeply in debt going there would've put me.

I agree with you 100%, that's what I'll do when I get furloughed.

I think what he is trying to say that he will look at another career. Why leave now when you can milk it to the end at the higher pay. There is life and jobs out of aviation. It's not the end of the world.

Because the "higher pay" isn't really that "high" anyway (even at $42 an hour and 75 hours a month is only $37,800 a year, plus the per diem that you spend on the road anyway). If you're going to look for a career outside aviation, why not look now and take a job that will certainly pay more than 3rd or 4th year pay...and have a better QOL?

There is not much you can do about the situation, so just ride it until the wheels fall off. If you really want a permanent solution, get a graduate degree in a solid area. Where there's a will, there's a way.

Even in other career fields your not immune to low pay and crappy management. I can name multiple people I know who have taken large paycuts (50% for one, no union=no say) or been laid off in IT, medicine, education, and business.

So good luck, but don't count on it being easier or greener.

It all depends on your situation. If it was best for you to move to another regional, good for you, I hope it works out. I just can't afford to take that shot again.

I'm not hanging on till the end, but I know some guys have wives with great jobs and are looking forward to getting furloughed and staying home with their kids for a while.

There's no single right answer.

Thank u 4 u'r advice.

Option 1 - start over at a new regional, back on year 1 pay, no vacation, commute to another city, bottom of a 3000 pilot list. No thanks.

Option 2a - stay at Comair on year 8 pay, hope that "pilot shortage" actually happens in the next two years, go straight to Delta/Contided/USScare/JetBlue etc.

Option 2b - stay at Comair, get furloughed, leave aviation.

I'm taking Option 2.
