I just got my first SD in about five years...

So I go into the chief's office and TO'B asks "Why didn't you report for your trip on January 2nd?"

I told him "I thought Comair was finished in 2010."

So he tells me "That's no excuse, and before I give you two weeks without pay, do you mind telling me where in the world did you hear that?"

So I tell him "Trailblazer told us and Trailblazer is always right."

And he says "Trailblazer? Why didn't you just say so? We'll excuse this one, but don't believe anything else Trailblazer says. He's a Delta stooge and a complete tool." and then he gave me a ham certificate.

Just in case anyone else has been skipping their January trips too...

To those who flew with me, it was great to have you backing me up in the cockpit. But what that tells me now is you're probably still on furlough, so Im sorry for that as I have been there also..(2nd airline).
Good luck to all, Diver keep in touch..
I have a personal question about this. How can you afford to go to first year pay 4 times? I was single when I started this. I'm married now and we have a 5 month old and until my wife finishes school to support me on first year pay, there is no way I can go back. I realize not everyone is in my same position, I was just wondering what the trick was.

When I left XE for NWA it was a little tough, but we lived within our means. We also did not have a child yet, plus my wife worked full time. But by 2nd year pay we could afford a child & she stopped working.

It can be a challenge for sure.

JB pay is 47 an hour to start, which is more than the top FO rate at comair. So it goes up from there. 62 or 67 2nd year

I went to another regional...which was paycut, so I cut costs (car just paid off) and will use some savings. And adjust spending as necessary.

It also comes down to "can you afford not to leave". I was going to get laid off from OH eventually and have 0 income. He may be forced to downgrade and saw that at this rate he was better off with the pay cut for one year with the ability for the pay to go up than to take the downgrade and only make top FO rate at comair with zero hope of it rising.

So leaving now for a job while I have the chance at a lower rate or stay and eventually have no income or affordable health insurance and still have to look for a job.

Not an easy decision, but you have to be think it out past the feeling of "it's a pay cut", because a pay cut is coming either way, you're just delaying it you stay.

I think there is a difference between starting over at Year 1 at a regional vs. a legacy/major. You just can't look at the hourly payrates, you have to consider other factors as well that can help recuperate previous income (Rigs, per diem, contract, QOL, benefits, company stability/future, etc)

I was in the same boat as BlueMoon. I left Comair for another regional. Sure it sucks starting over, but I figured I could have stayed at Comair for another year, moving backwards on the seniority list with no additional income in sight (lineholder) and then get furloughed this or next year. The paycut would have hurt a lot more after 4/5th year pay than 3rd.

And yes, whoever came up with this 1st year/probation crap needs a kick in the balls.
