Thanks!! So is the training delay based on just a lack of instructors? Did they tell you how long is the wait for the next class? I heard from HR people there that the first November class is also full, and we are expected to start after the Thanksgiving holodays.
How about your Delta passes? You have 2 Deltanet accounts now? Which airline has better benefits?

Hi Guys,
If you are moving to another airline, are you supposed to send a resignation letter to Comair? When I first got furloughed in 2008, the fleet manager told me that they would disregard the letter since there might be a chance for us to return to Comair and we get to keep our seniority number (that was 2008).
Has anybody gone through the process? Appreciate any information.

Sushiboy,
Some airlines require a resignation letter - some do not. For instance, post 9-11 COMAIR was requiring all DAL pilots to resign their seniority numbers in order to get hired at COMAIR. I don't think any one took them up on their offer. I thought that was stupid and childish then, and think it is stupid and childish now.
Not that you had any say in the discussion (like our hero JC). Good luck, and think long and hard about it if an outfit does require your resignation.

Put down the Kool Aid.
Delta owns Comair, most of Comair's aircraft are either owned by Delta or leased. Delta gave $1 a month leased CRJ900's to Freedom. If Delta wanted Comair, it would have been replacing the CRJs with other aircraft (CRJ700, -900) over the years since purchasing the company. Instead, they are just running the life out of the planes and using it as an excuse to get rid of Comair planes. I'm sure somebody read the included instruction booklet and warranty information provided by our Canadian friends, and knew the life expectancy of the aircraft. Yet, they have never looked at replacing the aircraft....not once. Use 'em till they are used up, get rid of them, and then get rid of the unwanted child known as Comair...that is the plan, it will happen.
Think how, over the past few years, we have heard of other airlines trading planes for others (3 CRJs for 1 -900, etc..) Has Comair ever been offered a trade like that? I can't remember a time that they were.
Believe you, me (HA! I just had to say that!) The whole Comair thing is a direct result of being Delta owned.

Here is what I was trying to say...
...I don't have the exact numbers, but the max. hours you can put on a CR1/2 is ~40,000 hrs. You could continue to operate the aircraft, but it has to go through a very in-depth and expensive inspection that no airline will pay for. Comair is one of the first one's to see a reduction in the 50 seat fleet, because we have one of the oldest aircraft fleet. Once it catches up to others (PNCL, AWAC, etc.), they too will see a reduction. Now, if they will get a swap for new aircraft, that is up to the individual airlines to negotiate.
Obviously Comair is not getting any new aircraft and I'm sure it is not worth it to operate an airline with only 44 aircraft. What's going to happen to this company I will leave up to your imagination. I think the writing is (has been) on the wall and that's what I left Comair, because I don't see a future for this company anymore... But I could be wrong. Crazier things have happened in this industry.
Everything you may care to know about the CRJ family....

My theory is everyone at Comair is in denial. It seems to affect more of the senior guys. Everyone needs to remember is we are owned by Delta and they call the shots!!! JB is just there to sign paychecks. This is a business and they are in the business to make money. Our airplanes are costing us more than the labor. We have the oldest CRJ fleet. Just remember it is not going to stop with us. The bullseye will move to any of the other 50 seat operator's out there come contract time. It is amazing the speculation that has happened in this thread. It boils down to economics!!!
I have no ill will against Delta for their decisions. To be honest alot of them make zero sense but what do I know. It is what it is so move on!!!
I am tired of flying with captains who spout their conspiracies of how Delta is trying to screw them. Comair has been a victim of its own success. Just look at the origional Piedmont. Now it's just a name and some Dash 8's.
BTW the way JC is on my do not fly list although I was displaced out of the 700/900. I wouldn't even ride in a car with him. I have no idea why he is qualified to be an airline captain. After flying on trip with him a year ago I would not put my family on his airplane. He has made more money at the expense of other's. Still surprised to this day that one of his son's got an interview at Delta. Talk about an awkward interview!!
Thank god I have about a year left!!!
