I think the kicker is that trampoline within jumping distance from the swing or was that the plane all along???

Diver Driver look away.

So we built this massive swing but we're having trouble really getting high. You hit a plateau at about 7 feet. If someone pushes you say up to 10, you come back to 7 even if you are 'pumping'. We have switched to a heavier chain to add more weight. That is my thought, that you need more weight at the bottom to help with the momentum but it didn't do much. Should we put some really heavy chain in the last 10 feet? Physicist HELP!

From the ground to the cross beam is about 28 feet.

Thank you.
didnt the mythbusters do some stuff with swings. they were testing if you could swing all the way around. check the archives.

For the love of God, why, Jesse !!!!
Okay...take a wild deductive shot at this one
If your chains were really short, and the force (push) applied is constant (whatever your buddies can muster after Jaeger shots),you could get almost vertical, no?
Conversely, the longer the chain, your work done (push) hits a point of diminishing returns.

My SWAG (Scientific Wild A@# Guess)... you need to hit it harder, son!!

Ever so slightly. Same Diver Driver, less cynical (slightly).

Ya.. they tied rockets to a mannequin on a swing. You could try that, but I would personally wear a parachute.

Sorta like being behind the power curve, eh?

I bet if you could build a cannon and shoot the swing rider out like a human cannonball, the force would be enough to defy gravitational pull and launch them vertical. I'm sure there is a mathematical formula you could use to calculate the needed thrust/weight ratio

Just a thought, but an elastic band launch? Discuss.
