I don't doubt that there will be more furloughs, unless something drastic happens, but at the same time the DC9's and MD80's going away probably wouldn't be horrible for us..as the routes wont ALL go away, and they'd probably be looking to just reduce capacity a bit on some of the antiquated NWA DC9 routes.
Less mainline planes, routes, and jobs is not good for anyone unless you are a Comair lifer.

That use to be the way. I have had 5 people call me this week asking me questions about everything that they are seeing on the news. Talking about driving for vacations this summer instead of flying. I think you would be surprised if you paid a little attention as to just how much in tune those people that keep food on your table really are.

For once the media is doing OK on this one, and Death is a pretty good persuasion for the traveling public to us their perception skills.

Hey guys, I was looking on another site and someone posted that S. B. said about 300 more guys on the street this fall. Any truth to the rumor? That would put a total of 500+ on the street.

Hope this is not true.

It's probably true that he said it.

It is also up to you to decide if SB is a credible source.

JB apparently said most likely more furloughs in the fall.

I have to side with Andy on this one.

People are, in general, mindless sheep that will follow only the headlines and those are quickly fading away. So, I doubt very seriously this will have much affect on travel numbers.

The public will still choose the cheaper option. And the cheaper option is still you and me flying our little planes to little towns for little pay.

300 + 297 = 597. that's roughly 42% of the pilot list on furlough.

Of course when they've cleaned out all the junior guys from JFnK, another 300 guys will need to go to take their place.

Plus another 150 Captains displaced to the right seat. Which means another 150 senior Captains to JFnK to replace those 150 junior captains that wind up displaced to the right seat and can bid back to Cincy. And then an additional 150 junior FOs get bounced to JFnK to make room for the displaced JFnK Captains who come back to CVG as FOs.

Good thing we didn't bring back any furloughed pilots to help with the current staffing shortage. That would require training. Like there's no training when they furlough...

Can anybody think of an airline, ever, that has furloughed almost half its pilot group and then recalled them all?
