According to EPIC, Comair is set to lose up to 14 aircraft in 2008. The original 8 we've all known about, plus an additional 6 more that will either be sold or simply removed from the system and used as spares, etc.

The article goes on to say that all DCI carriers are set to lose 10-15% of their Delta block hours in 2008.

The Problem is not simply Just to find more OIL.. fact is we have not opened up any new refinery in over 30 years, one of our biggest problem is refining oil to make AVGAS JET Fuel and the various grades of auto auto fuel, consider that refinerys have to ramp down some what to make different blends based on what time of year it is..well that drives the price of the product up.. solution TELL your Congress MEN we NEED more Refining Capacity that MAY ease the Impact

Yeah, but I don't think that mean 14 Comair aircraft. The way I read it says 14 50 seat aircraft throughout the DCI system. I could be totally wrong though, seeing how we have the oldest RJ's. I hope they can Freedom though.

"We will be supporting Delta's efforts through the reduction of up to 14 50-seat aircraft throughout 2008," John said in the memo. "Of the 14, eight are lease expirations that have been part of the overall fleet plan, and the remaining six will be taken offline to support the domestic capacity pull-down. "

Taken right from the memo. The President says "we," he means our company (Comair). Also, I noticed they say 'up to.' Could be 14, could be less. I wouldn't expect any less than 8 as those old leases are as good as gone.

Yes, I think this follows through on the 35 RJs that Delta would be cutting. CHQ losing the 135s, us losing 14 of ours, and so on.......

Unfortunately he brought up the idea of staffing cuts. Seemed as most of it was through cuts at the G.O., which is unfortunate.

"Q. How is Comair planning to support those employees who are impacted?
A. Special packages for employees in administrative positions will be available to aid in the transition
period to other employment. Packages will include financial assistance and career assistance workshops.
Employees who are furloughed will follow the terms of the collective bargaining agreement. More
information will be provided by your Human Resources representative."

Well it also said the "F" word, furlough in accordance with the CBA. That means pilots and FA's. After such a hiring boom I would hate to see all the new people get furloughed as it would be a real downer for most. Imagine your first aviation job at 500 hours and WAMMMM!!! Would you like fries with that?

I flew with someone from training the other day and we had a discussion about staffing. He told me that they had meetings that addressed the attrition and difficulty filling classes. The plan he explained to me has Comair allowing attrition to catch up with the operational need of the company. We are still interviewing, but classes are on hold until further need and at a loss of about 30 pilot/mo., the 'new hire class freeze' would continue until we are at adequate staffing levels where hiring would start again to offset attrition.

The furloughs are probably going to be in line MX and the FA group as there is little attrition there.
