Default RAH update

The Company was recently informed by US Airways that US Airways will recall all pilots which were previously made available under the “jets for jobs” program. The Company currently employs approximately 80 pilots under this program in its US Airways operations. The Company now anticipates that all of these employees will be recalled back to US Airways between November 2007 and April 2008.

Consequently, commencing in the fourth quarter of 2007 and extending into the first quarter of 2008, the Company will spend approximately $3 million to train new pilots to replace those that are recalled. To the extent the Company is unable to train replacement pilots at a rate faster than it loses recalled pilots, the Company may have to temporarily reduce its US Airways operation. The Company currently does not know the extent, if any, of such reduction. The Company expects to update this guidance, if necessary, during its 3rd quarter 2007 earnings call which is anticipated to occur before the end of October 2007.
Another reason to expect upgrades to decrease in time.

Based on number of pilots on property now compared with projections for the next 18 months and attrition! I am guessing right at 24 months for those hired up untill spring of 07 and then at least 30 to 36 months from spring of 07 till now! they did hire over 400 people in a period of 4 months between march and july of this year!

That's a bit optimistic. I've been here over a year and do not see upgrade coming in the next couple months that would take me to 1.5 years. I'd say at least 2 years until you hit the Fall of 2006...and then getting longer after that. We don't have enough sim time to upgrade the people between me and the most junior CA in the next few months even if the positions were available.

They plan on having the seniority list up to 2300 by the fall of 08! based on orders to bring the whole fleet up to 230! So that would mean we would have roughly 1100ish captains on property. So most of the fall of 06 hires are around the 1300s to 1500s. We are loosing all the J4J guys and attrition will most likely stay at 20ish a month. I jumped 33 spots on the september list! So yeah i would say fall of 06 hires will look at upgrade in the summer of 08, and About 24 months from DOH for the spring 07 hires and a good 3 years for the summer 07 new hires. I have a march number, sitting in the low 1600s, we will have over 2000 on the october list. 400 pilots in just 6 months means upgrade time will start to really stretch between all the pilots that were hired during the summer hiring rush! just my forecast! I have been wrong before!

If they staff it right (and that's a big if), there should be about 1300-1400 captains with 2300 pilots. Generally, you plan for 60% captains. You can always use a captain as an FO, but not vice versa. I'm a July 07 new hire and I agree that we are looking around the 2.5-3 year mark unless attrition jumps suddenly or we expand further. Of course, we also don't have the physical sim time open to train that many pilots in under 2 years.
