"It's standard procedure" ?????
I ran into a fellow CFI the other day that was just finishing up a computerized MEI/AGI test. I asked how chasing the dream was for him, and he said that resumes were going out in a week or so. I asked why he got the ratings, only to not use them. Wouldn’t that look funny on a resume? He said it was standard procedure and necessary to get the MEI and AGI ratings to get hired by a regional airline. His flight hours are right about at minimums (500/100)
Is he right, or did he just waste a bunch of money?
I think it would be pointless to put a wet rating like that on a resume. Almost like paying for a CRJ standards course?
edit: He doesnt plan on using these new ratings before getting a 121 job in the near future. Sure, its a great back-up plan but it seems like a waste if he does not intend to use the ratings for anything. Its just another acronym to put on the resume to make it look good.

You don't even need a CFI anymore to get on with the regionals. I do not know of any that require anything more than a commercial multi. I have no MEI or AGI and I am on my second regional......so yeah, he wasted his money.

He got the ratings, but said he will not be using them. He only got them to pad up the resume.
Knowledge can't hurt, but it can lighten up your wallet.

I completely agree, however, this guy was getting it just "because its required to get a regional job" and was never intending to use it. THAT is a waste of money.....

I was hired at multiple jobs, before the big hiring boom and didn't have an MEI. Only a CFI-I. Ofcourse this same discussion is going on over SWA. "Does my chances of being hired increase if I go with a 73 type?" Personally, I don't think it matters.

Can getting your CFI really count as 'padding' ones resume? Its not like they hand them out on the back of cereal boxes. At least it shows the trifecta of motivation, learnability and that oh so important component of any aviation career..having a back up plan.
I have my CFI-MEI but only about 200 dual and was hired last week. I wish I had instructed more for the experience and I know that one day in the future I'll be back in GA because IMHO thats the real meat and potatoes of flying.
I still plan on getting my I2 even if there isn't any chance to really make use of it while at a 121. Its almost sad that the CFI isn't even a firm requirement anymore.
