Leo, when you reach your ultimate goal it's great. However, some of the best times and flying in my life were building time along the way, meeting new folks, going places you never will in any airliner. Fast trackers miss out on that as well as a more well rounded flying experience. They have no idea and think it's all about herding cattle through space. I'm glad I took the path I did and wouldn't change a thing. Keep the $ in your account not the overpriced academies. You'll need it!

I'm loving it!! They have me moving airplanes from place to place for maintenance and other things so those are valuable free hours. I get to fly my friends around. I am working for the NBAA convention next month so hopefully I will make a few friends and contacts, and my school has already reserved a spot for me when I'm done with my CFI. It's alot of fun. and since I have a family, I'm not in the mood to spend $60k or become part of the herd of the mills. Finding a safety pilot to fly with is one of my only complaints. It's tougher than I thought it would be.

Like I've said before on these threads- most of the big name academy guys can fly a plane, but can't think out of the box when it comes to decision making.

Get your CFI experience first- isn't the safety of the 50 people sitting behind you worth it?

Any 14 year old can play a video game with unlimited do-overs (the sim)... It takes a real pilot with real experience to fly a real airplane.
These sunglasses inside, back-pack wearing, spikey haired kids fail because of one word... or a lack there of. "Professonalism" Remember... just because you get paid to do something, that doesn't make you a professonal. Did your CRJ teacher ever discuss how your decisions affect the lives of every person in that airplane? How about every person on the ground? How about how your attitude reflects upon you, your peers, and your profession?
No matter where you decide to go to work, know your roll... know your place. "Pilot Factory" pilots already have a reputation... You can be a good pilot, you can be a professional. Remember that attitude is everything and to learn every day otherwise it is a wasted day.
Are you a PSA checkairman???

Ya, but why would anyone be in that big of a hurry? I mean, the plan is usually to be at an airline for 30+ years. Why would you spend thousands of dollars to go to ATP so you could get there 3 months faster? When I say "you", I don't mean YOU, I mean a person.

I would think your own a$$ alone would be worth it.

There's a great number of kids that don't want to instruct or pay their dues. This is perhaps a topic for another thread, but the "entitlement generation" wants now now now.. and not just in the aviation business. I myself am a pay cash and your dues type of guy, so I try to enjoy things as they come. Being a father has taught me never to wish any time or experience away, ever.
