SKYHIGH is in for a surprise

I understand that many of you are happy with $500 cars and two bedroom apartments and I am sure that with that attitude you will not be disappointed......
Life is much easier and offers more opportunities to those who have more. We all have a personal duty and should strive to do better than lower middle class.

It is understandable that many here are trying to profess the nobility of simple living and are attempting to claim the high ground as such. However to use that as justification for intentionally throwing themselves into debt and poverty is irresponsible and foolish at best.
It takes a fortune to properly fund a full life. Drive the $500 car. Live in a two bedroom apartment, but it is better to own the apartment complex that you live in, invest into your children's future, have one million dollars of life insurance if you are married, own stocks and other investments and to take full advantage of employers 401K match.
And above all. Seek an equitable and profitable form of employment.

I firmly belive in "working hard so that you don't have to." I would love to be able to rent out a bunch or properties and play Mr. Furley with you, but the simple fact of the matter is is that is simply isn't in the cards. Not everyone can be as perfect as you, Sir.
Mighty Yoda of Capitalism and Success, please forgive us for being pilots, working towards a dream, and attempting to eek out an existence doing something that we love.
When I own a house, and make 200k a year, then will that be acceptable to you? Then will you be my friend?

The way it used to be...
Is the pay what it was just a few years ago, NO, AND it might not ever be in REAL dollars again. But like many of you I have known people who have been or were in this business going back nearly 40 years, and they can tell you upgrade stories from HELL. Guys at many of the Glamour Legacy carriers in the 60's and 70's who spent a decade if not TWO sitting side saddle in the 72 etc..... who barely upgraded to FO in their late 40's or early 50's. EVER to sit in the CA seat on the line.
Not to say that today's environment is any picnic, but the golden age wasn't so hot either.

Starting out today, or starting over, I don't believe that it will be possible to earn that much as a pilot. There are only a few companies now that even have that kind of income as a possibility. By the time any of us get there it will be long gone.
Besides I am your friend.

I got a talking to from a Public Affairs Officer once about using that first term out in "public". She said I needed to be more sensitive as to what I said and did around foreign nationals.
ME: "OK, Ma'am, so no more pis$$ng on burning corpses then?"
The conversation ended quickly.....

I think I speak for all of us when I say:
Thank god you are not my father.
Can you guys imagine having this happy machine around as your father?
Why don't you forget flying exists and quit reading this board, as it seems to pour salt over this open wound that is your flying career. We all fail at things, whether its school, with a girl, or with a job (in your case).
The difference between you and the rest of us?
We got over it.
I'm not saying that to be a "stinger" or an insult. I'm serious. We got over it.
Your going to come back and tell me "Newgrad, I did get over it...and what do you know since your so young?"
Clearly you haven't gotten over it, and no one on these boards or anywhere else for that matter would believe you having read what you have written.
I will admit I don't know much, since obviously I am a fresh new grad as my screen name says (a hint of sarcasm there). But I do know that you have some deeply rooted feelings (that show themselves via your hatred) towards the airline world.
There is more to life than millions in the bank, and ownership of real estate and $500+ cars. I'm not saying that we don't all want those things, but at the end of the day, I am not going to hang my hat on my accomplishment of any of the above things.
I feel truly sorry for you.

Be aware that there is a very thin that seperates Skyhigh from those of us who are still in the game. His perspective is valid in many ways, and if you are new to the industry you may want to carefully consider his point of view and do some soul searching.
Not everyone wins this game...
