Life at ASA
Hey Everybody,
I have ASAs packet sitting here on my desk and I am interested in working for them but have a few questions.
1. How is the Morale at ASA?? I know at almost all regionals it is bad, but how is it overall.
2. What are the min days off for line holders and how long would it take to hold a line.
3. What are the Overnights like?? What I mean is, are most lines with overnights only 8-9hrs. or could you have a line with long overnights the whole month.
4. I am 22 and have regional experience so am I pretty much destined for the ATR or could I maybe get the CRJ.
I flew with American Eagle for about a year and very much enjoyed my experience there. Especially flying the ERJ and having those guaranteed days off. Commuting really just ruined it for me though, I didn't have a bad commute but doing it on my days off and having maybe one day at home just killed me. So I would like to consider ASA because I live about 2 hrs. away and would consider moving closer once the pay got better. I really do not have much of a desire to go to the majors. I just want to have a descent flying job and not have to commute. Thank You in Advance

It's not as bad as the next 100 posters are going to tell you! Morale is low, and the treatment from management is poor, but that is usual in contract neg. end games. If ATL is your bag, when (and if) the contract gets done pay, morale and QOL will go up, so ASA will be even better.
Prepare for the storm coming from the less optomistic!
Ps. Upgrade times are dropping

Fly21, glad you made this post... because I start class on Aug. 28th....i have some insight, I have a friend that just upgraded their and he really told me flat out that morale is low, but Truman Sparks said if the contract gets settled, pay, morale and QOL will go up....as far as I know there is little to no RSV on the CRJ 200 and 700 now...maybe the ATR is afew months... but you can hold a line shortly n all 3 aircraft...its a good airline (for what regionals can do for you) as far as i can see....the traning/recruiting dept is great... I am looking forward to it...I live in Boston and may try to commute once i get settled and a good line....what base were you at AE???? good luck , but from what my friend told me..ASA is great but be prepared for lazy rampers, delays and to deal w no conract til they get it settled...let me know what you are gonna do....

Thank You so much for the replies. It is good to know that there might be light at the end of the tunnel when they negotiate a contract. (or atleast a spek of light) To answer your question, mregan, I was based in BOS initially with Eagle and doing a two leg commute from TN-BOS which was really tough. Also I really wasn't flying much up there because they were pretty fat on FOs believe it or not. So I would do a two leg commute, sit for five days on ready reserve and commute back home and not even touch the cockpit. I flew 100hrs in five months if that tells you anything. Then I transferred to ORD and that is when things got a little better, atleast for the flying part. Thanx again for the advice on ASA and keep the advice coming, because I am really considering going there.
