Republic QOL and Base Questions
Ok, I'm very new to this site and am glad that it exists due to the mixed opinions and information that is discussed. I am still a student working on my ratings and am doing some airline career research.
1. Im trying to find out how Republic (Chatauqua, Shuttle America, Republic) positions there new hires? Does your base decifper what airline your actually flying for? I'm trying to see if ORD (Shuttle America E170 and E145) is pretty junior? What are my chances getting in there as I'm a Chi native.
2. For any of you Republic folks out there...how is it? I haven't heard many really "bad" things and have talked to many CAs and FOs and they love it out of ORD. Hows the QOL out at other bases? What's the upgrade time currently and estimate within the next year or so.
Thanks in advance for the information and please provide any negative thoughts on Republic!

There is no E145 base there. Just E170.
As longest you live in base, life is 90% good. Commut. sucks period to any base for any company.
CHQ/RAH/SA has a ton of bases. Some bases like IND & CMH have multiple aircraft, (E145 & E170 bases). SDF is CRJ/ERJ where others like BUF, GSO, IAH...etc are single aircraft bases for the E145/CL65.
Also try www.republicpilots.org

Thanks! That site helps a lot. Would you rec Republic yourself for a person who is looking to "stay" at regional? Im looking at financials and it looks solid, but as far as leadership? Who knows? As for as ORD based it looks like my only solid choices are SKW and RAH. Im trying to stay away from eagle due to upgrade times.

I wouldn't rec staying at any regional forever.
What is good today may be in the crapper in 2 years.
Eagle and Comair were the place to be years ago. They were # 1 go-to regional, now I wouldn't go anywhere near them.
Throw the dice. Being based at where you want to live is worth its weight in gold. Pretty much makes any place bearable.

ORD for Shuttle is fairly senior. There is also about zero growth occurring on the Shuttle side of things although that could all change tomorrow (the rumor is something about 175's for Delta which would cause a lot of movement around Shuttle). Everyone that gets hired on at Shuttle is being hired due to attrition and there is v-e-r-y little movement going on there. I personally can't remember the last time a Shuttle upgrade class was announced.
P.S. - When they call you for class they will tell you what certificate and airframe your on. That determines what bases you can get. You don't really get your base until around the time your start sims.

Gotcha and thanks! So there's really not a choice given on base until assigned a class date. So I can count on commuting since ORD is pretty senior. Maybe a stupid question, but do u fly under different airlines at some bases or if your under shuttle ur flying only shuttle and not say chautauqua lines (meaning some bases have different carriers such as UAL DAL etc?)

When you are hired, they tell you what certificate and airplane you are on. You ONLY fly for that certificate (although you may fly multiple codeshares i.e. Delta Connection and US Airways Express), and you only fly that airplane. You can, however, change bases whenever your seniority can hold the base you want. You are "locked" in the certificate and airplane until you can become a captain. Once you can hold a captain slot, you can transfer to another airplane or base depending upon the opening you are taking. (all certificates on a master seniority list) As for the bases, my class did not find out our domiciles until a week after the checkride. And the initial assignments generally ignore what you request. Your first base is going to be where THEY need you. For example, the majority of the last several classes to finish for the CHQ 145 got Buffalo... hope this helps
