This quote was part of an email that was sent out to all in pilots regarding class dates and training. "As a side note, new hire #’s will very in the next few months because of available “qualified” candidates. We have not lowered our minimums and certainly are not going to lower our standards for new hires and because of this some classes may run a little short for the next few months." Again, that came word for word from that email and was sent from the VP of flight ops, Bradley Holt.

On top of that, there are a lot of people whose seat locks will be released. I would say at least 10 - 15 per class. So, I am disagreeing with JetJock regardless of what he heard. This email that was sent out was sent out on June 4th. We have been shorter and more behind on training people in the past and have not lowered minimums, why now? And, last year after September, hiring slowed down until around February this year. Just my two cents.

The SKYW lowering minimums rumor probably came from the person wanting to hire a friend of mine into the Brasilia even though he already has a CRJ type rating. WTF????

I don't even think we are hiring interns with lower than our published mins, so who is getting hired with 350tt?

No it is exactly 400 hours.

Which you could (or maybe should) ascertain in 4-5 months.

I don't think SKW will EVER have a very difficult time finding qualified candidates so long as we remain up there at the top and there are still carriers like Mesa and Trans States around ;-)

Koolaidman, I received the very same email you did over three weeks ago. Are you naïve enough to think things can’t/won’t change in that amount of time? Also, you need to learn quickly that Holt and crew are JA puppets, they only jump when told. Any information we've received from anyone in Mgmnt should be take with a grain of salt. After all Mgmnt (Holt, JA & crew), back in the day, all said that we’re not going to be flying CR7s or 9s and we're not going to open a crew domicile in ATL cause “that’s ASA country.” Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrr……………….BULL $HIT! Yes, my information is “hear say” but it comes from HR/Pilot recruiting. One better is that she (who will remain nameless but we all know her) is the person calling SKW pilot applicants and does so based upon SKW hiring qualifications. If they’re reducing pilot minimums then she knows. I heard it straight from her mouth, not a BS email, it’s only a matter of time before SKW officially drops their mins.

Everyone, look at reality! Low quality regionals have been sucking the instructor, 135 & corporate pilot pools dry for sometime now. The number of qualified applicants at 1000TT that are available or willing to leave their 121 job for another regional is rapidly diminishing. After all, there are only about 1800 pilots at Mesa and most of them are new hires around 250-500 hours. Their CA’s aren’t making a lateral move so if all regionals continue to hire 600-800 pilots a year then how long can that continue? Schools like Pan Am Academy are now offering to pay for your CFI and half of your CFII/MEI if you'll sign a 1 year contract. That's how bad it's getting.

SKW’s not immune to the industries staffing issues. For sometime they’ve been able to fill their classes with current 121ers and 1000 hour instructors. Those times are over due to fewer 1000 hour instructors and willing 121ers. SKW will probably reduce their mins to around 600-700/100. Probably just above all other regionals so they can keep the “mightier than those” perception among applicants. Plus it’ll allow them to continue to take MAG, PSA, TSA, GoJet and others new hires just after they complete IOE. Why? So that they, those listed above, can deal with the headaches of teaching low times the ropes, then SKW can hire them and continue with their 99% passer rate effectively retaining or increasing their ROI.

As for the 350TTer, someone’s blowing smoke up you’re a$$. SKW has never, that I know of, reduced mins for any intern. Yes it’s easier for them to get an interview, but no preferential treatment other than that. Unless you’re kin to JA, Holt, Reber or any other higher up; even then we’d all know about it and I’ve never heard a word.

I am that naive. When your rumor happens, then we can throw a party to acknowledge that a rumor in the aviation industry came true!
