Nick,

You can do better than Gulfstream Academy. Get a good 1000+ hrs TT and 200+ multi and apply to ASA, SKYW, CoEx, etc.... You'll be glad you did.

This would put me over 600TT and I would have a very good chance at a job through some friends I have, but am wondering what others think about the program since it cost $30,000.

PAy to work for someone, what is the world coming too, just think by the time we retire in 30 years your have to give back salary to fly a 777!

Errr, Medicine?

In fact, aren't residents still paying tuition (usually through loans) while getting paid some measly stipend? That's basically what GIA does, isn't it? Granted, you have to be a resident before becoming a doctor...or does that just mean that what is referred to as "PFT" is acceptable in medicine?

Maybe what we call PFT should be PFJ: Pay For Job. Many professions require you to pay to get some kind of training to be employable. A&P, Dispatchers, ASE auto mechanics. Heck, I paid for my MCSE which directly got me my IT job.

Now if I had stroked GE a check for 8K and they paid me 2K for 3 mos. of work with no guarantee of long term employment, that would be a whole different ball game.

Side note: I asked a buddy of mine that flies for Chautauqua about PFT. He said that traditionally PFT meant you had to pay for training in an aircraft in order to be and remain employed at an airline (not sure if he meant type ratings or not). That sounds familiar....

My wife is a Resident at JHU and is pulling in $35K, exactly 12 K more than me at XJT! No we are the only assh*les who are actually assisting the driving down of our salaries, NYC bus drive, start at $52K!!!!!!!!!

RedOverWhite,

Residency is NOT pay-for-training. It's not even close. These guy's and girls don't buy them selves a job.

Check this out.. very cool option... They have a cool training program with a follow-on job.. http://www.wingsofpeace.org/employment.html I think you pay for much of the training, but a 737 type is included as well..

Isn't SWA a pay for training? You have to pay for your type before you get hired. Unless you're lucky enough to get one from somebody else.

Octobersky is absolutly right Nick.... Listen, If you havnt ever heard of flight safety then you are missing out on a pretty good program. Flight saftey has contracts with ExpressJet American Eagle ASA and Transstates airlines, Each of the 4 come down once a month and interview students who are willing to prove that they can pass the airline training before they come to the airlines. The best part of the training is IF YOU DONT GET HIRED, YOU DONT PAY A DIME AND YOU DONT DO THE PROGRAM. So you have 4 airlines to interview with, if you dont get hired by one of the 4 youll never get hired. Flight Saftey makes simulators and trains most of the airline pilots in the industry and cooporate world. The program consists of a full Emb-145 ground school taught by 5 retired 747-400 captains. Then you learn all of the call outs and flows for YOUR EXACT AIRLINE you were hired by. After that you fly the emb sim for 50 hours then your AIRLINE COMES DOWN AND GIVES YOU A FORMAL CHECKRIDE. apon passing the checkride which is at a current 100% pass rate, then throw you in their next class date. I have seen guys getting hired with less than 260 TT with 30-50 multi. and that isnt a lie at all, you can prove it by calling flight safety. Its not paying for your job, it is proving that you are just as good and anyone else, but with less time. YOU ARE ALREADY HIRED, YOU EVEN WEAR YOUR COMPANIES EPELTS WHILE YOU ARE IN TRAINING..... dont let these guys discourage you, they are just upset they spent all their lives "paying their dues" WHEN YOUR GOING TO HAVE THAT SENIORITY NUMBER. THINK OF IT THIS WAY NICK - SPEND 2-3 YEARS AS A CFI THEN GET HIRED, WHEN AT THE END OF THAT 2 YEARS YOU COULD HAVE ALREADY BECOME CAPTAIN WITH THAT AIRLINE..... BECOMING A CAPTAIN SEEMS ALITTLE MORE IMPORTANT TO ME, TIME IS MONEY.....

hey whats goin on nick, here is the link for you
http://www.flightsafetyacademy.com/c...n_advanced.php

the cost is 22500 only if you get the job.... check it out, these guys cant slam flight safety, they will all at one point in time dealt with them. check out their record, astonishing, I got hired less then a year of gettin my private with only 400tt. guys in my class had less than 300tt. give them a call at 7725647600, if your going to pay for the rights to a job id rather see you here than gulfsteam, Flight Safety is owned by Burkshire Hathaway, one of the largest coorperations in the world, they arnt out to get your money, just out to get you a job... these guys are whining because the airline pay is at an alltime low, let them go find another job....... here are some requirements to get in the program: commercial multi insturment... to interview expressjet 400tt 100 multi ASA, transstates and Eagle dont have set minimums... most guys go with asa... iv seen classes of 8 at a time training for just one airline.

The future of the passenger airlines is bright with programs like this dude went through. He's going to become a CAPTAIN and wear EPELTS to training!
