Direct to captain you say? So they can't even find people from within their own ranks to move into the left seat because they aren't staying? Sounds like a company I want to pay so I can work for them.
I really wish that all of my fellow low timers would start seeing that this trend doesn't just hurt the guys at the top of the food chain. By paying for training you're making less money now, and in turn you're going to be making less in the future because you've already set the precident. Quit cutting your throat, and every other pilot at every level's throat just becuase you want to fly a jet. It might take me a little longer to get the experience, but I'm not going to have an additional $30,000 in loans to repay on a $15k per year.
Think about this. That guy that just hooked up the single point to your RJ is likely making more money than you. He didn't spend 4 years in college to get there, and he didn't pay for his ratings, and he didn't pay his employers to learn how to operate the fuel truck.

yes i haven taken a big pay cut I was in the realestate business I did not have to take any loans out so that was not a concerne. I wanted a career change and did not want to instruct again. They pay you 11.25 an hour while you are doing your 250 then if you are hired you get bumped to what ever the contract rate is. it is about 18.00 with lines running about 90 hours a month. Also they are hiring out side capitans because most of the 1st officers do not have the time yet

It's nice to hear that if you have enough money in the bank you can buy a job away from another hardworking pilot who has busted his butt for years to be in that seat. That makes me feel all warm inside.

To all who are interested. I personally know people who went there. You are paying for 250 hours of SIC 1900 time. Once your time is up. You are on your own. The reason this business is so bad now is because these desperate pilots will do anything to advance their career. Nobody wants to put the time in anymore. Everyone wants to have money hungry flight schools shoot them out of a cannon into the right seat of some airliner.
What ever happen to the old CFI route- Where you earned your wings the right way. All who are thinking of pay for training. Stop!! You will be a much more compitent pilot and earn the respect of your peers if you teach a year or two.
Could you imagine any other industry where you would pay a company to work there?? You know, walkin into blockbuster video and paying to work there. If this trend continues will are going to looking up to people who flip burgers at fast food places because they make more then us.
My 2 cents

Congratulations on that offer from Colgan making a crappy salary after all that money you paid!!!!!!!
I can't believe you guys.
Hope you never say to other professional pilots what you did to get to the right seat.
Is because of people like you salaries and working conditions are getting worst every day.
Anyways thanks for ruining it for the rest of us!!!!!!!!!
Really smart choice, again Congrats.

I think a company should pay for a pilots training, not the other way around.
With that being said, all those that think the pilots who do this (pay for their training) are the primary cause of the pay/benefits packages decling, I think you are absolutely delusional. The pay is eroding because we as a pilot group are accepting it, for one; two, companies in the USA are bankrupt, three, there are just too many pilots in North America. PFT has absolutely nothing to do with pilot pay. Absolutely nothing. Especially at this point.
