Hey Pinnacle & Mesaba Pilots, what's your policy on hats?
In an age where NWA pilots look like crap wearing leather jackets and no hats, I am wondering what the policy is at Pinnacle and Mesaba?
I am not trying to start any strife between the carriers.
I am not being a nit-picker about hats.
I am just wondering if there is a possible effort by management to make us look bad in the public eye, therefore justifying our low wages.
Every other pilot group looks very professional in their uniforms.
Thanks.

Mesaba policy is to be in full uniform when in view of the public. That INCLUDES the hat. As you can see by walking around, that is not typically enforced as a majority of Mesaba pilots prefer to leave the hat at home (myself included).
Blazer is optional in the summer months as you are aware. We do not have the leather jacket/coat option.
Are you suggesting that we need the hat to look professional? Usually I am by the book, but in this one particular case, I just cannot motivate myself to wear that silly looking thing on a routine basis, especially with our gaudy, ugly emblem on it. I do bring mine along, just in case the captain is a hat wearer. At least then, we look consistent as a crew.

I understand your feeling on hats. I was just wondering why we don't have to wear ours but, you guys/gals are supposed to wear yours.

pinnacles policy is the hat is optional. the only time you have to wear the hat is when performing public demonstrations, ie picketing, giving speeches or lectures, etc, etc. blazer is optional after may 1st to i believe nov 1st. no long sleeve shirts unless you are wearing the blazer,,,
