American Eagle SJU Base
Hey everyone, just looking for any info you guys can give me on the San Juan Base for American Eagle. Specifically those of you who have been based there, how do/did you like it? How was it finding a place to live, costs etc?
Thanks
p.s. I searched the forum for other posts but couldn't find what I was looking for so if any of you have a link it would be much appreciated.

Im down here right now and its got a lot of pluses and just as many negatives. The flying is incredible and the scenery (beaches and women) is nice. Im assuming you arent from puerto rico so there will be the issue of not speaking spanish, once again assuming you arent fluent in spanish. There are many descent places to live. The closer to the ocean the less youll get for what you pay. I live south of the airport in a nice place for a fair price. If you want any more indepth info let me know

I am looking for pretty much anything you can expand on. What is a typical price for rent/utils etc? Do you usually end the day back in San Juan or are there many overnights? Also, on your days off how easy is it to get back to the mainland? As for the spanish I speak a little and I have been to most of the Caribbean; iIam just looking for what it's like living there first hand.
Thanks

The trips are either 4 day, 3 day, or 2 2 day back to backs. All but a few routes are out and backs. There are flights from san juan to atl, phl, jfk, ewr, mco, clt, bdl, bos, iah and a few others every day so getting back is pretty easy. Your looking at 150 a month for a crash pad and up too 600 a month for a one bed room apartment. I have a 3 bed room 3 bath place with a couple of other guys and we pay about 450 plus utiliteis wich varies depeinding on how much you use the AC (we are looking for another roomate if your coming down). I hope this helps.

the ATR is the only aircraft here? Also, do you need a car over there or is there good public trans? And, how long is the reserve and average hours per month? Thanks in advance

It's been awhile since I was in SJU, but here's what I remember:
Only ATRs in SJU
You don't have to have a car, although it would be nice to get away from the airport and see some of the island.
The bus is cheap (25 cents when I was there), but not very dependable for a schedule. I guess you get what you pay for. If you are not in a hurry, it works great.
Not sure about the reserve time now. Things have changed since I was there.
