Both Mesaba and Compass work for Neil Cohen, NWA EVP for . . . . and Regional Airlines. Cohen is a "numbers" cruncher. He currently owns about 6 million in NWA stock and has nine payments of more (every six months).

See http://www.secinfo.com/d13vF9.ucR9.htm

If NWA profits go up in the next few years he could own about ten million in stock. His goals should be effectiveness (doing the right thing) and efficiency (doing it the right way).

IMHO: There is no efficiency in operating two regionals. Mesaba is on "a high." Read the posts by recent hires in this thread. Then read the two Compass threads. They are coming apart at the seams.

If they both have the same boss , why are they so different and what will the future for both be ?

I think it's a reasonable question; if only Neal would answer.

I believe it was you that said you for saw a merger between the two. Using compass's higher timers to fill empty captain spots at Mesaba.

Sounds reasonable and "efficient" to me.

Well, so far, there aren't any unfilled CA spots at Mesaba.

HR will call soon. They are just really busy with all this hiring. Just relax and enjoy the times you have now because once training starts, it will be furious and fast. You will enjoy the training though. It's First rate. Mesaba is a class act as far as regionals go, and it is run like a major airline. You'll know what I mean by this when you show up at the training center. Training department is first rate when compared to others.

Were you in the 4/23/07 class?

Purchasing MESABA came AFTER the SJ plan. Now that NWA owns a 'working' regional, the question is, what are we doing with this 'COMPASS' thing now?

Those in the know would NEVER have gone to COMPASS...no way!

4. Hot reserve pay?
5. Does crew scheduling make trading trips with someone like pulling teeth?

Thanks for any info you guys might have. Also does anyone know what routes the -200 will be flying?
All very good questions that could be answered by someone with access to a Mesaba ALPA contract. I do know that as of right now they are planning on basing all the 200s out of MSP.

When did you get called for the class and when did you interview???

Congrats!

Thanks. I interviewed in early September (the 6th I think) and got a call about three days after. They are letting me start in November because I'm getting married at the end of October. Seems like a good company. I also have an interview at Pinnacle but haven't decided if I want to go yet. It seems like being based at home and be at home during training would be a lot better than being guarateed a right seat in a jet. But who knows.

Go MESABA. It's a no brainer!

I don't see compass and mesaba ever coming together. However, Compass will have operational contracts with mesaba to reduce costs. Breaking the airline into many parts weakens the union's power.
