Actually most of us have no desire to live near NY or fly anywhere near that mess either.

Sooo...the latest APLA email proposes trimming some of the capt's raise this Dec to bring the F/O's out of poverty wages. I've already heard one captain's opinion of this...what do you all think?

Sent my email supporting this action and will vote yes when it comes in the mail. It needs to be done.

I too support this (no, not just because I will soon be returning to the FO seat)

I originally thought it might drive a wedge between capt's and f/o's and geneally speaking I don't want my gains to come from the loss of others that I work with, espcially other pilots. However, the email does state that the whole reasoning for our wages being so low is that the f/o's salary was essentially "sacrificed" to facilitate bringing the Avro on property during different times in the past. So now that times have changed once again, maybe it's time to reward that scarifice.

Yea, you can thank the blended FO payscale on that. "Well" paid turboprop FO's but about the lowest paid 76 seat jet FO's in the industry.

Whether you support it or not, it is important not to fall into the trap of thinking that someone else is losing something out of it. No captain will be taking a "pay cut". Creating a higher starting point for FO's will benefit everyone, not just the FO's when negotiations for the next contract come around. That is closer than most realize. It is amendable starting June 1, 2011.
