Really as much as I have been positive about something happening looking at all the angles, a lot has to change in a little bit of time...
Scope is capped, and we are getting rid of practically half the fleet, I don't see any major shifting of airframes until contracts are up which is a ways away (and making up for 49 airplanes will take alot of shifting, especially getting rid of 149 airplanes system wide)...now the only question is to jump on board somewhere else or wait this thing out hoping it doesnt last 7 years...

Well this is not related but I just got selected to be one of the flight ops interns starting in January. Im pretty excited, hopefully the guaranteed interview comes in handy once I get my "competitive" hours. Any pointers from you all? Besides run the other way from aviation because I've heard that from a lot of pilots including my own father who is a pilot but unfortunately I can't see myself not flying... so any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Congrats, from what I hear get ready to do a lot of Jep and manual revisions (among other more interesting things). This is an awesome job but a horrible industry.
Like the last poster said, if you get approval definitely make use of your jumpseating ability...and dont be shy. Ask a lot of questions. Dont listen to the people who are obsessed with the negative sides of the job. Above all have fun.

What base will your internship be at? WIPilot was right, get used to filling mailboxes and keeping base manuals up to date. Good luck with your internship and I sincerely hope you get that interview sooner than later. There are going to be alot of guys on the street soon here at XJ and It would be great to see them all back on the line flying once again.

First off thank you guys!!! I know there is a lot of negativity but I am trying to ignore that all. Im very excited because Mesaba is the regional I want to start my career with. I will be in MSP and from what they told me, we will be going to DTW and MEM to work for a day or 2 here and there. I really hope I will be able to Jump Seat! If I am able to they will have a hard time keeping me out of there because I will be flying everywhere!
Yes it is I get it from him I would say haha, and yes he is an Airline pilot NWA for 26 years. And yes he has told me all about the industry that is why it took me until I was 21 to start flying.
That is perfectly fine with me! I just want the chance to be around there, I work the ramp right now and I love it simply because I am around planes all day.

Congrats, the love for flying is a disease. I'm sure if your dad is a pilot, for an airline I'm assuming, he has told you about all the crap that this industry will put you through. I'm hopeful your internship will show you every angle this industry has to offer...I'm not sure if you get CASS approved but if you do, go and fly the line, and talk to the pilots...they will tell you what really happens out on the front lines. I hope that you do get an interview sooner than later too, that means that all of the people that are/will be furloughed from here are back flying airplanes at XJ. I did an internship before I started the airlines and all I can say is it was alot different than what I thought, hopefully your internship will provide you with that as well...
Best of Luck...
