For the state you reside in, go to that state's employment/labor website and you should find the info there. I live in California and it is called the EDD (Employment Development Department) The ALPA website also has helpful info about furlough. Follow the link for furloughed pilots. Good luck to you. I am #1067 and will be taking a voluntary furlough I think. Where do you stand?

Michigan UIA - Unemployment Insurance Agency

UIA staff calculates how much you receive in unemployment benefits by multiplying the highest amount of wages paid to you in any base period quarter by 4.1%. The UIA adds $6 for each dependent you claim, up to five dependents. The weekly benefit amount is capped at $362. (The federal American Recovery & Reinvestment Act has provided an extra $25 in weekly unemployment benefit payments for most programs through the end of 2009. The Federal Additional Compensation boosts the maximum weekly benefit in Michigan to $387.)

So... I'm guessing an FO at about $7,000 per quarter would get you $287/week + $25

Any chance you know how far they go back for the highest quarter of pay? Is it just for time at Mesaba? My previous job 12 months ago I was making almost twice as much(flight instructing, sad eh?)...anywho, I figure unemployment would be a little higher if I could pull from that. Thanks for any insight.

It's based on your last year's worth of wages regardless of where they came from. This will be my second time on unemployment and second time furloughed this year alone.

The standard base period includes the first four of the last five completed calendar quarters prior to when you filed your claim. The four calendar quarters in a year are: January – March, April – June, July – September and October – December.

So I read they go back a year. All the info is in the "Online Claim Filing Kit". It's a PDF that is two links under "what's new" in the middle of the page.

I was furloughed from Comair in January. I was JFK based and live in Florida. I filed my unemployment in New York because I was based in New York. BTW; New York State pays double what Florida pays.

Good Luck

Yeah I agree, usually file in the state your based in they told me cuz I reported to NY not Kentucky (where my company HQ is). Remember to press "0" over and over cuz its a pain the butt to get a hold of someone then I would ask them about the WIA program I thinks thats what it is called....Good luck

For all you soon to be furloughed Mesaba guys- If you are interested in getting your ATP/CE-500 type it can be done through Michigan's WIA fund. The state covers it all and the training is done at YIP. I recently did it.

If you would like further details PM me!
