Mesaba new hires

I'm guessing we don't hear about voluntaries till August and nonvol's in September. The saabs don't start to go away till September so I doubt they will give us any info till it gets closer. I think they will continue to stay 100 or so overstaffed in the hopes that something comes our way and when it comes closer to September we'll hear something.

Saabs leave in September and lots of junior guys in 900 training needs to be completed before displacements start. So training takes 6 weeks minimum plus 2 weeks min notice to furlough with contractual 30 to strive for due the math and it seems it needs or needed to start already. So why the wait is the big question. I don't think furlough is a fore gone conclusion for whatever reason.

It is really not a Mesaba debacle...it is a Delta/Northwest debacle. Remember Mesaba is there because of the Major Airline. They can shut the lights off or adjust the schedule as needed. Just part of being the dingy on the Cruise Ship. Mesaba does not want to furlough...but sometimes they have to adjust.

What happened to all the projected growth at Mesaba? Last fall there was all kinds of talk about more CRJ9's. Guess we can chalk that up as a rumor. Hopefully there are no furloughs.

What happened was we thought there were 15 CRJ900s coming but that ended up being only 5. DAL could give us more or take more away or do whatever they want I guess. For now the paycheck hasn't bounced so I will still show up and fly.

After we received all the NWA 900's Delta said we were going to get 15 more 900's and quickly. We hired like mad for 2 1/2 weeks. Then ASA and Delta made a deal to park 20 200's for 10 900's and all of a sudden we only get 5 more 900's and we are overstaffed. Also there was also some discussion of block hours that never appeared and now we are over staffed even more. And now we lose 10 SAAB's and we are in a situation where we can't keep everybody.
I must admit that I am surprised that we have not furloughed yet. In my six years here the normal staffing plan is to be understaffed. For us to have multiple Ready Reserve crews in the bases is just amazing.
I think part of the issue is the fact that being owned by Delta, causes Mesaba to keep more people than in the past because our managers don't know what Delta wants. We also have the extra pressure of having no special protections over our Delta brothers like ASA or Pinnacle, our only issue is on time performance and cost.
So again Easy Come, Easy Go - Sorry

Speaking of ASA loosing 200's... any ideas of where they are going?
