I think we made pretty good strides in our last contract for FOs and reserve work rules, we didn't get everything we wanted, but you never do. We had another thorn in our side which took away lots of bargaining power and that was the BigSky threat. So... I'm confident that in our next round of negotiations there will still be emphasis on the FO payscales.

Face it... once you make it to CA, you finally make a living. That doesn't mean CAs don't deserve raises, but IMO a lot of the money needs to be thrown at the FO pay scales. The first years as an FO are lean, but doable, as many in the past have done. Getting stuck on reserve, on FO pay, with no per-diem is the worst. But once again, it was never advertised as anything different.

What I have a problem with, is people who have been here less than 2 years, complaining about being an FO and the FO wages. I'm not sure what you were expecting, especially if you are a low timer and knew you weren't going to be upgrading soon. There is NOTHING we can do about our contract at this point. It's sealed and we have to ride it out until we start section 6 again in a few years. There's no point in worrying about what you can't control, KNEW you can't control and knew what you were getting into. Save the energy for when it really matters and get involved when we start negotiating again.

Joe-

And to others in a similar situation for that matter. I'm very sorry, my message didn't come across as I had hoped, my bad.

I am in the same boat as you, I work a second job as well, money is tight, the house I live in does come at a significant price. Unfortunately these are all things I knew would happen when I started here. I agree with you in that I wish they paid us more, I think everyone feels they are worth more. The point that I was trying to make was that there are positives to our current situation. I guess trying to look on the bright side. It was my thinking out loud that got me into trouble...

I've considered the fact that if I do get furloughed, that may be a sign that it's time to find a profession that rewards me in a way I see more fit. Not complaining, just making contingency plans. I love flying like just about everyone else, but reality, at least for me, is a pain in the you know what.

Point is, I do stand with you, as do many Mesaba pilots I'm sure, but I can only imagine these are the dues that must be paid that everyone speaks of putting in.

You know I usually dont talk on here much anymore because it always turns into some sort of a ****ing match. To bored and some others, I agree we all gotta take our licks of the salt lick and when it comes time for contract negotitions we should push better wages across the board so that way pilots of all senority can at least pay there bills.

To Colonago and others who are complaining. I feel your pain. I have been sitting on min pay ever since I have been at mesaba and well have sat reserve for my entire time here living off of 75hrs a month with little to no per diem, and mind you I am on year two pay and in the not to distant future year three. Now I am doing this while living in MSP, while raising my two kids with my wife who can not get a job because we cant afford daycare. Now talk about rough living with a family of 4 on a $570 paycheck every two weeks. How em I suppose to live. I will tell how and for the most part others have mentioned it. First off XJ is a good company compared to alot of other regionals. Now they arent perfect and certainly some management people need to come to reality with some of ther ideas, but overall our contract and work rules are better than pinnacle, Great lakes, republic, and etc. I went out and became a part-time cop in the city I live in to help pay the bills. I also will go to my in-laws farm and work there for some extra cabbage if I need it. You just got to tough it out and live very frugally. If you are out there buying Iphone or blackberries with those wonderfully expensive plans, that is you own doing and you gotta live with it. If you want to succeed sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and work a little bit more to get to where you wanna go. I know it shouldnt be that way (low pay) but I can do nothing about it and niether can Mesaba, they have treated me and my family so far with respect and helping me when I needed help. When contract time comes up again thats when I tell my union rep to get me a better wage or else I will give my services to someone else who will(Saint Paul PD or Minnesota State Patrol?) As of right now I am going for a third job as a paid on call firefighter in my city because my kids had life saving surgery and our wonderful plan I medical insurance only picks up 80% of the bill and so I owe them several thousand dollars and on top of that my wife had a serious health problem and I had to walk out of flying one day(I did call CS to notify and I got a No Show and dont give a rats butt about it) because my wife was having chest pains and I rushed her to the emergency room and I just got the bill and its about a thousand dollars. Now you dont see me here saying **** mesaba and **** the world. I just gotta do what I gotta do to live and to provide for my family. So to you really junior guys out there *****ing and moaning about how the pay sucks and how you feel like you should get something more, just be thankful you have a job right now and that you can have it way worse. Right now most of you have no kids or families to worry about, I do. Most of your paychecks have more money than mine because I have family insurance plan and a 401K because I need those thing for my family. So either quit complaining or get a part time job and make up for lost income. I have said my peace and I am sure some **** will be talked about me. Have fun and good luck on the comments.

CKB is starting to become my least favorite destination. Maybe we should do MGW instead.

I wasn't complaining. I made it clear I'm pretty comfortable right now despite being tight on cash. (Aren't we all?) It's like listening to men who complain about their wives. Let the poor damn bastards share their experiences. No need to preach to them that they should divorce just because they want someone else to listen and who can relate with them.

Not necessarily. There is a reason management hasn't said anything about this. If we were losing planes, we would be furloughing. Plus, why would you spend all that money on painting and refurbishing the a/c.
