Mesaba new hires
#5531
Just received the following from Mesaba HR:
"The latest projection for new hire classes is late summer. I don’t know the numbers or aircraft at this time but I just wanted to keep you all informed as I learn new information. As you all know all things are subject to change on short notice in this business. I will keep in touch as any new information becomes available. Please keep me posted with your current information and status. Thanks."

Well then I would not expect any furloughs from this. COLA or TOWP probably. Very thin lines especially on the FO side certainly. But a furlough wouldn't make much sense if they project to need to hire again in fall...

You really need to learn to read the entire progression of the post before jumping the gun. My post clearly stated that I wasn't sure about the numbers. If I had the articles, I would have posted it and clearly stated as such.
Never said getting more aircraft at regionals is a good thing. I was responding to someone who asked me if there were more aircraft out there in the DAL system for bidding.
I am one of the many who wants to get hired by a major. I certainly do not plan on being a regional lifer. I do hope DAL and other majors will expand their mainline fleet so there will be hiring instead of furloughing but right now it seems unlikely majors will be hiring anytime soon.

I think your numbers are 100% made up. That's why I was asking for the article. Rumors are fun and all but I think yours get a little out of hand

It doesn't look like there will be furloughs ... I think the Saab cpts will have the thinnest lines though

Given the state of things, I doubt any airline could secure new financing for any new aircraft. Also, there will be no more 71-76 seat jets under DAL scope until mainline starts buying narrowbody aircraft for mainline. Typically anyone in lower management isn't told anything, because if they are they immediately blab it to the pilot group.

The old DTW chief pilots (especially SK) were pretty much worthless for inside info because of just this. They seemed to find out about 30 minutes prior to everyone else and they were told to then pass the news to us. Anything beyond that was just thier speculation from experience just like the rest of us.

Just curious when in the month TOWOP would be offered. I can't afford to take it but the number of spots available for this would give us a pretty good idea of where things sit.

For all the poolies out there make sure to check your e-mail, just received a message from HR.
"I have no firm date yet for the new hire classes to resume. The latest word I have been told is “could be as early as September”. Sorry I don’t have better news but I felt it was important to at least touch base with you all. We are offering an early retirement package to the pilot and flight attendant groups to help adjust our manpower after the CRJ 900 aircraft reallocation by Delta. Some new developments have been going on since our last conversations. We have begun Delta 900 flights out of SLC to places like SFO, SAN, AUS, BOI, LAS and others so you could now fly coast to coast on a Mesaba 900. We begin Saab service between ATL and HHH (Hilton Head) March 3rd and April 1st we begin Saab flights for Delta from Tallahassee to Tampa, Orlando and Ft Lauderdale. Another big event was the announcement that Delta is forming a new subsidiary called RHS (Regional Handling Services) that is Mesaba’s and Comair’s ground handling operations. It will have its HQ in MSP. I attached a couple of items with more details. I want to thank you all and hope I have more solid news soon. Please keep in touch if your status or contact information changes. "

Hang in there. I waited March '08 to Sept '08 for class. They are good about giving updates and it seems like they really do try their best given the situation. I hope it will be sooner for you guys/gals!
