There is really no way to know. You might be getting in at the end of the recent hiring cycle. Many factors including the flow through starting up, other majors starting to hire again, total airframes at XJ will change that. In the mean time I wouldnt be looking for the left seat in the next 4 years.

BigRig has good points... but I will also add that there are still a good number of folks that aren't eligible for upgrade due to flight time and/or age. The current vacancy has a lot of CA upgrades for both the 900 and saab and it will tell a lot as to what kind of FO movement we'll see. I suspect the upgrades will go a little more senior for FOs because this class will be after the holidays are over.

A higher time guy just might luck out, if the current FOs are tapped out for upgrades and it goes very junior to a high time FO... like it did last year before we had to hire street CAs.

Good point Bored. The last vacancy went as junior as 830's. I think you are right about guys not wanting to be in class during holidays. Especially if some of them had their vacations scheduled for that time.

Hi!

I was told by 3 pilots, that Cape Air capts (NOT the ATR capts) make about $45/year, which isn't bad, in my opinion.

After the vacancy is listed for the new hire class, will that be the final determination of the equipment type issued to new hire FO's?

Is it correct to say that class are all "Saab classes" mixed with 900's one class and 200's the next... and so on.

If so, is acft/base finalized on day one of grnd school?

Thanks

When the vacancy award comes out for the new hire class you're assigned to, the base vacancies will be known for the new hires. These are the spots you'll be bidding on when you get to class.

Each vacancy contains basically a saab class and a 900 class or a saab class and a 200 class. Going into the future, it looks like only classes for 900 and saabs will be available. However, if movement from 200 FOs takes place, there will likely be classes for the 200.

As for the day in class that you bid, I'm not sure. It'll happen early on though and if you get a base you don't want, you can set your preference bid up to reflect what you want and then see what happens on the subsequent vacancies. Vacancies have been coming out roughly every 2 weeks and will continue to do so until the hiring stops.

Hope that helps... PM if you need further clarification.

The contract only stipulates that there will be no training on Christmas and New years day. That doesn't mean you couldn't be in the middle of training during that time. That also doesn't mean you couldn't be in Montreal or Denver over this period as well. So... it very much matters if you're in the middle of class during the holidays. Another caveat is that if you've got vacation over the holidays... once you go to class for a new position, your awarded vacation blocks in your old position get dumped back into your vacation bank for you to rebid. So... if I was a "senior" FO and had a vacation slot with Christmas off, I wouldn't want to go to training either until after the holidays.
