Mesaba new hires
#4521
A Mesaba mechanic in MSP gave us those numbers today along with some of the details of there configuration that can be expected. I don't remember all of the details. He also said that a MX base (perhaps a pilot base as well) would be opening in ATL sometime in the spring around the time that Mesaba will begin revenue flights to ATL. The SAABs will start flying in there around February and the CRJs around March.

I'm not sure if anyone can help me with this decision, but I have been working for a regional for 8 months. They threatened with a furlough a month ago and then they just opened a new base in EWR. It's a pretty badly run company, but that means that there won't be any "career pilots". I was offered an interview with Mesaba at the end of November, but I don't know if it would be a wise decision to do a lateral move after 8 months. Can anyone shed any light on how it really is to work for Mesaba and upgrade times for newhires? I'm a little hesitant about making a wrong move and then sitting as an FO for a long time and on reserve. I'm still under ATP mins and flight time and upgrade is a primary focus for me. I can live with getting paid dirt - I'm just looking into the long term. Thank you.

It is a great company. I would say do it because you might be stuck here for awhile so go for qol. Once you have a family or are further in life you will not want to work for a bad company.

Anyone currently working there will be able to give you more info as I am not an employee. Best of luck to you!

To all the folks starting CRJ-900 class Nov. 3. I know I proposed dinner a while ago on sunday night as a chance for us all to meet up and get to know each other. Hopefully those that were interested still are, how does 7pm sound? I called the Staybridge and they said there's an aviation themed restaurant nearby that would probably fit the bill for everyone. I'll be driving up, but should be there by 4pm or so. Looking forward to meeting you all that I don't already know!

Make the jump and don't look back. You're looking at 4-5 years before the contract will be threatened and the screws turned. There is a good chance that a new hire will have seen a significant jump in schedules and seats in those years. Mesaba is VERY stable (outside of a goofy SOB CEO) right now.

For the new hires getting into the system, which base seems to be getting awarded to the most rookies? Thanks all.
